Whats the hurry?

Why do all you SEO rock stars worry about getting to page one in a few weeks?

Is it because:
1. SE algorithms change so fast you need to act quickly with what you know
2. You need to focus on fresh niches before the rest of us get into it
3. It's like a badge of honor

I'm mostly serious as I'm planning my first real seo effort and I expect to spend at least one month defining and learning to use the tools before implementing anything real. Probably another 2 months getting it going.

All my sites are aged about a year and indexed and have between 1000 and 3000 backlinks. But they're crappy bl's - from twitter posting.

Because people have no patience. They want to achieve everything without any effort...

Getting to number one means money.

Ever hear that joke about two bulls at the top of a hill overlooking a bunch of cows in the meadow below?
The young bull says - lets run down there and get us a cow.
The old bull says - lets walk down and get them all.

Substitute "get" with your favorite Saturday night verb.

You make it sound like it is HARD to get to page one or something.

I find it easy to get to page 1 within 2-8 weeks or so, but it is getting to NUMBER 1 that is the hard part. I usually just shoot for about 2nd - 5th place or so. Trying to rank #1 is usually a long battle. I prefer to worry about getting many sites & pages to the first page, rather than getting a small amount of sites or pages to #1.

I always go with an aged domain that is about 5+ years old, and PR2 or better. I never worry about getting a name that is relevant to the keyword/niche I am trying to rank for. It never seems to matter (except for when you go with an exact match domain, which I don't do very often anymore).
