What's the best plugin for speeding up site?

What's the best plugin to use that's simple and easy for speeding up website performance?

There are a few cache plugins for Wordpress but they mess up the site if deactivated. Anyone know of any good ones for optimizing and speeding up website performance?

You're looking for the best, right? Then you shouldn't use a Wordpress plugin
I love Varnish HTTP Cache and will advocate it as much as possible as it's opensource: https://varnish-cache.org/

This isn't just for WP but for every HTTP Request. It's powerful as hell and way more faster than WP Cache or others plugins (i know what i'm talking about).

The configuration is pretty easy for Wordpress and with a 500 RAM VPS you can get 800+ concurrent connections (that's concurrent!). If you need more than 800 users with 512 RAM then you should think about scalling your website.

I don't believe you'll find a paid service that gives you better results than varnish, unless you want to run your website from a kickass gigant CDN provider.
BTW: you can deactivate the top cache plugins on WP but you've to cleanup the cache and that's done by webserver because the nginx/apache2 respond a cache lifetime for the requests and when you deactivate the plugin you must handle that at webserver side, not only deactivating WP cache and removing the cache files. Clients must know the cache has expired, you can tell them that. Read their docs, you'll find it all.

If you want a free and easy solution then use the combination of WP Fastest Cache and Autoptimize.

Depending on the theme that you are using, some of the settings may alter your themes appearence such as the Minify CSS setting so you will have to play around to see if any settings make any big changes. Don't worry though, you just disable settings one by one to see if that was the one causing the problem and you should gain some good speed.

I frequently get websites scoring in the high 80's to mid 90's on GT Metrix with the combination of these two plugins but if you are running AdSense you probably wont get it that high.
