like others have said , go with astra. if you are good with wordpress and not a beginner, suggest generatepress. extremely fast!

get the premium plugin for generatepress from here: https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/get-generatepress-premium-add-on-always-updated.1229488/

stay away from themeforest... you will have issues when you want to switch themes and also with web-vital scores

It looks like GeneratePress doesn't use Elementor? How do I learn how to design with it?

This is the best advice on here. Generatepress is fantastic if you know your way around WP already. If not, go with Astra.

Do I need Elementor Pro to edit GP templates?

Generatepress is good. You can also try kadence theme with kadence blocks. Both are free and have more options in the free versions then many premium themes and page builders. Kadence blocks also come with kadence starter templates(free) built with elementor and gutemberg/kadence blocks.

From my experience, if you’re a designer looking to build out custom themes then you’re not going to want to use Elementor, you would use Underscores to roll your own. Since you asked for a multipurpose theme it sounds like you want a single package that will give you the flexibility to use on many different sites across various niches. This is a good approach because you don’t have to become a designer and you can focus on building out the important parts, the page content. I would go to Themeforest and find a theme you like that has a lot to offer. Themes like Betheme, TheGem, phlox, Soledad, offer a lot of demo options to choose from, what looks nice is subjective so choose one that you like. You can always make speed improvements to make your site faster but if performance is really a concern then you wouldn’t be using Elementor.

You could use block editor as well as other built-in features. I'm starting a new site on generatepress right now if you want to get in and look around before i add my content.

Just use a website builder on a basic twenty twenty theme and you can make anything you need.

No you don't need elementor pro to edit gp templates.
Also elementor (pro or not) works only on templates build with elementor.
Gp has its own theme builder.

Just checked elementor blog after a long time, loaded slow as hell, I mean really really slow

In my opinion of the topic:
- Neve
- Ocean
are easy to work and simple, are fast and flexible.

I am using Astra as others replied here, but Digi is a good option also!

Sure, basically it depends on the what is the category of the website are you making

First, the fastest themes of WordPress are ASTRA, DIVI, GENRATEPRESS, SociallyViral, Parallax Pro, etc
BIMBER for the blog websites is also a good one.
