The one SEO trick I used to do is to have as many backlinks as possible just because I wanted more links. I used to only think about link quantity not quality. Currently, I like relevant and trusted websites as sources of back linking. A handful of high-quality links can be beneficial than hundreds of poor quality links that have no substance.

Same here; I used to try to get link counts but figured out that most of them don’t actually do anything. What really counts is relevance and traffic, imo

One thing I used to rely on heavily was exact-match anchor text and large volumes of backlinks. It could move a new site quickly, especially in easier niches, but the results became much less predictable.

I stopped caring much about raw backlink numbers. A few relevant links from real sites usually beat hundreds of weak ones.

One SEO strategy that I abandoned was getting low-quality backlinks simply to increase the amount of backlinks. Websites that are not relevant and spam sites will appear helpful initially, but will not provide much value. Now, I concentrate on getting links from other sites that I feel are substantial and will be relevant to my article. If you have a few good backlinks, it's better than hundreds of bad ones.
