When I first started using Reddit, I thought following the subreddit rules was enough.

Later, I realized there were many small things that were not written anywhere, like timing, account history, posting style, and how different communities react to the same type of content.

What is one Reddit mistake you kept making until you finally figured it out?

I am sure many of us have learned something the hard way, and it would be interesting to hear different experiences.

Not providing enough free value to my prospective customers.

I've learned that if someone verbally attacks you, you shouldn't respond in the same way. That gets you banned for 3 days. Then I learned afterwards that you shouldn't create a new account, because that gets you banned for 7 days. Finally, I learned that you shouldn't log into an old profile at all, because that resulted in a permanent ban

mine was treating every subreddit the same each community has its own culture and understanding that made a bigger difference than just following the written rules.
