did some research and couldn't decide, some say that PR is more important, and others say that it's outdated and irreverent, and only PA/DA matters

    what do you guys think?

When I do link prospecting, I check both.
I classify the sites like this:
    Type C: PR 3-4
    Type B : PR 5-6
    Type A : PR 7-8

    All DA must be 40+.

PA/DA are metrics of moz which is taken into account when building private blog networks and PR is also important to decide on that domain but now its been a long time since the last PR update.

Domain Authority can't be transferred even with a 301 from what I've seen. Google isn't keeping records of each domain, transferring whois info and "+1'ing" it because of a 301. You'll see an increase in PR\PA either way.

Personally I'd rather have an established domain with authority and have a higher PR (even though PR is simply one factor of the algo). If you find one with legit PR and high PA\DA snatch it up if you're not paying out of the ass for it. If it's legit, and even if you're not creating a private blog network where the budget isn't the primary concern, it could very well be worth your while to purchase it any how.

All of the above metrics are indicators of trust. Why not go for the trifecta?

    thanks guys

obviously i would like to go for both, but PR4 and up domains with DA of 40+ are insanely priced, and DA 40+ domains are way cheaper, that's why i wanted to know what is the more important factor :)

PR. The reason i say this is because if you get a link from a higher PageRank on the site, you will get more juice than a page that doesn't have a high PR.

in my opinion DA is more important than the PR factor just because PR is something that's randomly given out while DA is something you rake over time... just because your PR is low it doesn't mean your DA is also low ...

DA is also considered one of the "free ranking" elements of a website .... random keywords are most likely to be ranked even without optimization and backlinking on a high DA property rather than a high PR property

i always tend to use analogies when i try to explain complicated things, even to myself... just like in real life PR (public relations) is how the public is seeing you, here the public is G and that tends to suck on itself, so even if the property is bad but the PR is good you will be seen as a good thing by the public (politics) ... on the other hand trust is something that is established over time and not even a bad PR can put a dent into it ...

to sum up i would say that PR is like currency, it's only as important as people believe it to be, while DA is like the gold bullion backing up that currencies value towards the market
