Its easy to explain!
At the very beginning, people can not direct type sth and let others see it immediately on the air, they can only use telephone to talk with each other, or use post office to send mails.
Suddenly, US military related organization invented the first embryonic web and it can let other army base which far far away from hundreds of thousands miles see the typed words instantly! It is the first time people can "talk" with each other in a such quick and efficient way except the telephone call.
Soon this "Web" thing popular in the normal human society, and the early internet people like to put his computer ONLINE and let others see the content in his PC, soon the website trend bloomed.
In a nutshell, the Internet is just, unlimited PCs link each other in this world and developing since the time to like today. (such as Google, Amazon is literally still a "PC", just they are big, and have to buy a lot of PCs lol)
OK, my ignorance, I just googled www and seems it is another story not like I told hahahahahaha, nvm, self-made history!
