I do it for tier 2s and achieve awesome results... but usually the interlinking is across thousands of different pages (randomly)

Definitely not for Tier 1 ('specially if you've only got a few)... WAY too obvious...

Interlinking is good for seo.It will bring some great results.From 4-5 years i am doing web 2.0 for my blogs,It is bringing good results.
