When building an authority site, what's better

A. Buying an established site with good content then linking posts to the authority site. So they essentially share backlinks
or
B. Buying an established site with good content, transferring articles to the authority site in the making, then redirect links?
But, some articles might not be relevant to the authority site, so some articles will have to be parked/scrapped out

the first option... if the content is indexed and is relevant link from then will be better than to move the articles...

So I checked out strategy of several competitors. What they have done is used option B. They're authority site in their niche. They have majority of backlinks from same few domains with good authority as well. But they transferred all the articles from the other sites and then redirected the links. And not only that, all the backlinks those sites had like from Wikipedia or Linkedin or any other major sites, they got that backlink too! So B one is very extensive and a lot of work but in the end it's very benefitting.

Is there a risk that the previous ranking articles won't rank anymore when moved to the new site?
