Possible Proxy Detected - "squid" something, etc.

All these proxies I am getting claim to be Elite Level 1 or Level 2, but whatismyip shows my IP and the proxy address' IP.

So are these websites lying? I tried some proxies on this forum and I get the same thing.

I use Foxy Proxy addon to test the proxies.

Not all public proxies are transparent.

Proxies AnonyLevels

Level 1 L1 [High Anonymous]: A proxy that does not identify itself as a proxy to site or reveal your IP-address
Level 2 L2 [Anonymous]: Identifies itself as a proxy to site you visit but still hides your IP-address.
Level 3 L3 [Transparent]: These proxies are leaking your IP-address via proxy headers.
SOCKS 4, 5 and 4/5 proxies are always high anonymous.

Normal sites usually have no idea about proxy headers, for example sites like PayPal track for these headers for security reasons. Both L1/L2 are anonymous, the OP's site does not detect at all L1 proxies.

Private proxies IP's are always originating from data center IP-ranges, and are therefore easily trackable. Normal sites neither have idea about these ranges but there are solutions available that even detects DC ranges.

But I am using Level 1 and Level 2, or at least that is what the website I get my proxies from says.

Private proxies cost money yes? I don't have money for that. A VPN would be a better choice I would think if I were to spend cash.

man I am trying to learn this all, but so easily baffled. Ok, just quickly so I know I'm not miles off the point...
Public proxies kind of hide your proxy (hopefully) but there not great security wise and you can get viruses right?
Private proxies are better, but they cost money (how much do they normally cost?)
and you can also try a free vpn hider or something like that
Man, this will be a long weekend of revision haha

There are also fast and high anonymous public proxies. A regular user may not just find them all. The proxies have absolutely no way to install viruses on your computer. Proxy just pass through the traffic between your PC and the internet.

Generally private proxies are better but usually limited to 1Mbps speed. FYI there are also unlisted public proxies available (port scanned) that provide easily 10Mbps+ download speed if you have a good connection.

|NiX| 78.46.40.83:8080 SOCKS 4/5 RDNS: trahe.eu AnonyLevel: 1 Country: [DE] GERMANY Region: BAYERN City: NUREMBERG Ping: 13 ms Total time: 0.7 seconds Google: Listed

This is a good example, listed in google but still fast and highly anonymous ...

You may check proxies for sale section if you're interested in private proxy packages pricing.

Proxies don't give you viruses...

Proxies do however log any information you type in. So it will log any user names and passwords. If it's a legit proxy site it's not a big deal, if it's some random proxy I would not do that. Personally I don't log onto anything if using a proxy. A VPN will also log all information, but you can buy one that doesn't log.

I just need a list of US L1 or L2 proxies.

What does it matter if its SOCKS or Http?
