I started working on this well over a year now and to be honest,
I should have thought it through more from the beginning to the end when I began. There is too much competition and I am finding more and more and hitting walls every day. I am on a tight budget so I cant sink much more money and time into this than I already have. I guess I was hoping it would be making a profit by now so that I could use it to improve the site and get someone who has experience to help.
At this point, I am getting really frustrated and debating just giving up but i know I will kick myself in the butt later on for not giving more effort and sticking in there to the end but then again who knows where the end is?
Anyway, I am very far from an internet marketing expert so I did what I could and here is what I did so far:
I have a custom shopping cart that updates my product prices and stock weekly. Everything is functioning properly for the most part except the categories are a lil off and the pictures can be sized better but that is not my main concern right now.
I was having issues and fixing things here and there but for Valentines day I tried to make the most out of it and I launched as many advertising campaigns as I could...
I made some backlinks earlier but I am sure I need to make much more. And I wrote and submitted a bunch of articles to article directories but again need to do more of that. For valentines day,
I created banner ad's on clicksor and they got me one sale out of every about 100 dollars that I dropped in. The markup was high but I still lost over 50 per 100 spent.
Google ppc - about the same results as clicksore.. The google clicks are just way to expensive over a dollar a click.
Shopzilla - the markups some people have are just ridiculously low. I had to lower my prices to be anywhere near but I just dont understand how they are making a profit considering they are paying for the clicks they get.
Bizrate is the same as shopzilla.
I also created google places page and made lots of citations which started to get some traffic but nothing that converts to orders.
I know I should be doing more seo but its just to long term for me and again the competition is big so I dont want to be sinking money into that right now either.
I was thinking freelance the sites template and make it look more professional maybe that can be the problem or I just lowered the prices..
I dont know if any of you watch the show Gold Rush but I feel like the guys in the show where everthing is going wrong, nothing is working and on top of it all no one knows what the f their doing...

Any suggestions on where I should be putting my attention on or what direction I should be going?

maybe try joining sex related forums and put your link in the signature. That will get your links and also some traffic.

What about buying some cheap SEO services from places like fiverr.com

I hear there are a lot of services there now.

Other then re-investing.

Why not do keyword research and find some easier to rank for keywords and go after those. (Long tailed keywords).

Just hang in there. Keep working on the site building links.

Since it sounds like you have the money to invest in advertising, I suggest running some PPV campaigns by targeting URLs for similar stores like AdamAndEve. Pop up your ad when people get to the main page (or category pages) with a coupon like "Looking for _____? Get it at (your site) right now for X% off for a limited time. Coupon code: XXXX". You should be able to get some cheap, highly targeted traffic this way.

Also, I suggest you keep the site. Even if you don't want to continue with it right now, you may want to later and your domain will be even more aged.

Its just weird after I paused all of my paid ad campaigns to adjust prices and figure out what I was doing wrong, I get a sale from some of my locals listings.. But when I send loads of traffic I get nothing..
Yea Thank you for the advice, I should probably start concentrating LESS on being profitable right NOW... and work on long term.
Great suggestion about joining related forums and adding my signature. I will look into fiverr as well I will just need to take the time to find quality seo work.
I need to read up more on doing better keyword research.. I hate doing it.. Is there a paid service that can find do my keyword research?

I would suggest starting with DirectCPV. They have a small opening deposit requirement ($200) and the conversions are pretty good. You can target URLs or keywords, but I would go mostly for URLs... try to get your ad seen by people who are already looking for what you're offering. You can get your ad seen for as little as $0.015 a pop... dirt cheap for such highly targeted traffic.
