What would you do?

Interested to know what you would do with this competitor (possibly a BHW member, though I have no idea...)

I have a website in the automotive niche which I have been nurturing for the last 10 months and I am starting to do quite well for my KW's. However, a domain with SUPERB links has popped up and is taking the top spot for pretty much everything it is targeting.

No, I will not share the domain!

The domain has obviously been bought at auction and has links from wikipedia, NYT, Huff, Guardian, Kickstarter which are pertinent to the original domain but not the Amazon affiliate domain it has now been repurposed as.

Metrics

• Ahrefs = 71 DR / 71 UR / 2.92k RD
• Moz = 52 DA / 3.4k RD
• Majestic = 22 TF / 37 CF (not seeing all links, so possible a gold nugget find and not auction?)

Destroy or Accept?

So, would you out this domain to its decent backlink domains and see if you can eliminate the completion or would you think, 2nd spot is OK?

By the way, the site is pretty crap but the authority is killing it (for all you who say content is king)

So yeah this looks like a super strong domain, that could be very hard to beat. But I am not sure what you mean destroy? What make you think you can destgroy it?

This being said, yes #2 can still be profitable, you have to be creative.

Destroy = out it to its decent links and get them removed - fairly easy, just feels a bit crappy, hence the question.

You just have to accept it, would you like it done to you, so really a morals question. Personally I accept competition and try to beat fairly, unfortunately it's life. If you owned a shop in your town and another shop opened selling the same, how would you deal with that?

If you have the skills to make your site rank top than your competitor, do it.

Weird comparison. Comparing a physical shop vs a completely online shop lol.

And there is no moral or immoral in love and war and this is business. STRICT BUSINESS.

If you are to survive, do anything you want within your skills to push your competitor down to the bottom.

Not really lol! The comparison wasn't literal as you took it lol! I was talking about competition, so I used that as an example of what if a shop opened up. As we are discussing trade, I used it

The websites linking to this domain are being deceived because the links don't land on the same content as originally intended. I think it would be morally wrong not to have those links removed.

I don't agree with doing everything in your power to sabotage, like negative SEO, but I don't believe this fall into the same category.

I agree with SimpleSiteSolutions, if the backlinks are pointing to something completely different than they were intended for I would reach out to them. If I'm following right could you reach out to them if you've got more relevant content?

To be honest, all you would need would be either the archive.org page for the original content or someone elses content which is on the same original topic. Authority sites don't like being duped and want their content to be relevant for their readers.

Actually, recreating the content on my site might be worth a shot. May as well see if I can pinch the link.

I'm not the current number 1, just gradually creeping up the top 10. There are far bigger and more successful sites than mine which are going to take notice. I think I might just sit back for now and wait to see what the big boys do
