What would you do with $3000 SEO budget?

If you go down the hiring road then make sure that they have a good track record in rankings. Ask for samples of previous rankings before you even think about parting with a penny...

There's a lot of people who talk the talk with fancy seo speak, but very few who have proven record of ranking competitive words.

I wanted to get few ideas from you guys ...

Currently, I have about $3000 monthly spend budget for SEO for my local service business (limos).

What is the best bang for my buck in terms of investing that?

Should I be buying link packages, posts, hire someone to do in house, blog network or anything at all?

Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

Thank you,

Hire a guy that has an understanding of how to rank a local business and does it professionally like the guy that wrote all the below... in fact, just do yourself a favor and hire him specifically.

Yup, just hire Techxan. You couldn't be in better hands probably, especially if your other options are hiring from elance, odesk, BHW (local stuff does not call for blackhat) etc.

Why thank you both, sirs, how kind of y'all.

Couldn't agree more.

I'd buy a Forbes link and some slightly lower authority sites to build trust then do everything manual with very diverse anchors. If you're a legitimate company you don't exactly want churn and burn crap.

Is this your service or a clients? In other words, will you be making money from providing the actual local service to ultimate end user or from providing ranking service to the local business owner?
It would be relatively easy to rank locally for your service given your budget but you also want conversions or sales. You want to also consider offline marketing as part of your advertising mix, not just the Internet side of the equation. For local service type businesses image is important, so make sure the website portrays that quality image. Next important is local reviews and customer testimonials. There are so many fun and easy ways you can promote this service locally. When working with local clients I always include offline marketing as part of their strategy. After all, if you or your client, as the case maybe, aren't getting sales, you ain't going to be happy!

The fist place i suggest you start is visit an SEO specialist for a consultancy session, set up a meeting after that you'll have the clarity you seek.

Very good budget. You will rank 1 for sure if you hire the right people for your site.

Just find an seo service company that you can put your trust on and know what you are getting from them. i have done seo for a limo business before and i can honestly tell you its not easy to rank as fast as you may want,it takes time but once you get there, then you will reap the benefits of investing in an seo company

Easy now, he does make a valid point. Local SEO is different, and you do not use blackhat techniques to rank them because google updates can gut your rankings, and Google has a special "local" algorithm for small businesses to qualify for that allows local brick and mortar establishments to compete with national competition.

Limos are especially competitive, and compounding the problem is that the website needs to be very elegant and professional. You are targeting the higher economic spectrum, and you need far more than an online business card.

With the kind of budget you have, you can rank organiclly, and with the local algorithm. Yu need to start by getting as many high qulality citations as possible. Find someone who knws how to build citations the right way, and get as many as you can from quality local directories. With your budget, look carefully at a few of the paid directories, Yahoo may be a good choice for you to join, and there are probably some industry directories that you need to identify and sigh up for as well. Above all, make sure all your citations match exactly the Google + business page AND you choose the right category for your citations. Behind NAPW, the category is most important.

Get your website up to the grade of a photography gallery and pay someone to do the keyword research necessary to hone your onpage seo. Google must understand exactly what each page is about. Plan on continually adding quality pages.

Reviews are also very important and you need an active review funnel. For limo's, video reviews are pure gold. get the reviews scattered all over the place if possible.

Be extremely careful when link building. If you get an unnatural link penalty, it will be at least a 50 point drop in ranking for the affected keywords, and that effectively kills the business.

Instead, try to earn links. A limo service can do these things by offering the local homecoming game the use of their limos for the halftime show, or thru giveaways and contests, sponsoring local sorts teams, and other ways that show you are active in the community.

The links you get from local entities are extremely powerful. Your active link building should be slow and deliberate, focusing only on EARNING quality related links, no spam or spun anywhere because a customer may read it. You need an active backlink outreach effort.

Rely heavily on social media focusing on local groups and entities.Use press releases, or social media ride-alongs,anything that will bring in a video viewer.

Right now you need someone who understands local SEO to do it for you, or to teach you how to do it for yourself. If you carry on with plans to rank this site like a blackhat IM site, you will in time destroy it.

Linking blasts, blog networks, things like that are a kiss of death to a local business. Real local businesses do not act that way because they have a business to run, not an SEO agency.

And then comes the next [animal] update and his site gets taken out anyway - probably as a false positive, or possibly as a random 'lets f*ck with everyone' factor.
Then he loses his income overnight, goes crazy, and races his limo to Mountain View and crashes it into Google's building, 'to teach them a lesson'. Then, he gets arrested on a whole bunch of charges, but before he can even face court, he has 3 years of hospital treatment that costs him his life savings, and more. When he finally is brought before the court, he's left trying to explain himself to a bunch of people who think he hates Penguins...
I dunno... it just seems that whichever way you look at it, white hat is not a good idea.

I probably take the view that you're better off with half a dozen pure black hat sites 'in the ring', and let them fight it out for the top 3. At least it's just money - not actual time and effort invested, as with the above.

What this guy says. Top on that, I had a couple of white hat sites (I spent well in the $xx,xxx on content, design, whitehat stuff for years) which was constantly on and off again in the top 20. Then most of them tanked. Meanwhile, many blackhat sites ($20) with stolen, scraped and/or spun content generated a lot more income. Do the math.

It depends on how you want to play. Can you afford loosing your website? Can you afford building another website and spam the second to the top and repeat every 2-3 months?
I would suggest you to have 2 websites, a white hat one and a gh/bh one.
With this budget, I can even have 3-4 websites.
This way you will not only protecting your business. But also you will learn a lot. I have ranked 2 of my websites, the 1st was #2 (black hat), and the second on page 3 (white hat). Lost the first in the last update. But the second is doing great.
Btw. I have made a lot of money from the penalized domain

I'd be p*ssed if that happened. What did you get smacked by, Penguin or Panda? And what was your White Hat link building strategy? Did you have any editorial links?

As a member said before you should try to build a clean blacklink profile.. reach out to bloggers and webmasters on similar niches that can provide you with some strong backlinks that you wouldn't get otherwise.

I've never had a local site get hit by a Google update. EVER. Animal or otherwise.

Even pigeon didn't hurt local results, it ripped maps a new one, but left everything else untouched.

You spent over $10,000 on a local site? Either you are commenting on the wrong thread, are talking about an IM site, or I need to be your web guy.

I can get a local site on the first page of google with on page seo and citations alone.

I would donate it to the first guy who has his username ending in "1027".
Also, if the username starts with "lord", that would be a clear advantage.

Either

A) Buy 50,000,000 blog comments

or

B) Build 300 PBN sites

But which one.... hmm...?

With 3000$ Budget, I will get 100 REAL Private Blog Network Build for my own Big Competitor Keyword and get Page 1 and Make the investment double in weeks. Honestly, This I do with Some Big Project, Normally 1500$ Budget for SEO is enough for Good results. as We have to invest regularly in SEO Field. it is not One time thing.
