as the title says "what would you do if your were me". You guys have amazing experience and knowledge when it comes to marketing. I would love your opinions

Pretend your a great entertainer "magician", confident, provide both really great closeup and stage magic. really believe in the service you provide. Know how to deliver.
But u can have all the mechanical skill in the world but MARKETING!!! is everything.

So how would you go about it? I know this is the big golden question and vague. And there are endless possibilities. BUT give me your best advice.

WHERE should i put my focus and effort? what services should i look into

Emails?
Cold calls?
Door to Door introduce yourself??
Snail Mail???

Very vague indeed. Are you a magician who wants to book more gigs? If i had a talent like that, i'd definitely get involved on Youtube.

Yeah more gigs is the goal, I am doing well at the moment but I want to kick it into insane levels where I can than dish work to magicians that can work under me.

To be more specific, I live in a fairly large city so density of people, functions, schools, wedding, taverns, churches are good, but i want to expand out nationally to corporate. Not sure what the most effective way to contact them is. Any other entertainers out there with would be great to hear your opinions

If you live in or close to a city, or a mall or any high foot traffic area you could always go do some street magic and then hand out your cards to the people who watch.

If you are really, really good you could do events for people. Like birthdays, get together's parties etc. You can go on craigslist and look at what people have posted in events and offer your services as entertainment for their event. You can also post your own ads like "Hire an awesome magician for your next event" etc.

Or you could always go in another direction and offer to teach people magic.

Hope this helps

I like the idea about craiglist and events, Is there any other clever marketing tactics to be able to track down and local and national events happening in Australia. If I was marketing to events that were being planned that would be amazing

Oh wait that last post you had changes a lot. In that situation here is what I think you should do.

Start a brandable website for your area. Make a super sweet video for the homepage that shows some crazy magic that intrigues people. Say that you are offering the best magic/events. Make sure you mention that you do corporate and high end events.

Go over to the services section and get one of the good SEO people to rank you for some local keywords like "entertainment in (City)" or "events in (city)" etc. Shouldn't be too expensive or too hard considering it is only a local keyword.

Watch a ton of traffic pour in and watch you start getting booked.

Now for something a little "out of the box" you could go to some luxury real estate agents that are having open houses. Offer to put on a magic show at the open house. You gotta make sure this is some luxury real estate though because usually people that can afford that can want to be more entertained at an open house. This is why they usually have cocktail party open houses etc. Real estate agents should know that peoples memories of houses goes along with the experience that they have there. If they have a great experience, than they will remember that house, and like it better. Use that as a main selling point.

Anyway tell the agent that you will keep the people there entertained, as well as attract more people to view the magic show. One good real estate partner could lead to a ton of gigs doing this, and they'd love you. Just make sure that you set yourself apart from the rest by doing things like this.

And as far as websites go you have a GINORMOUS advantage because how many other magicians out there do you think know about BHW and the services that are offered here.

You could really blow them out of the water dude.

Man you really got me thinking about this!!! haha

Another thing that you could do because you said that you wish that you could market to events that were being planned. Go to cake shops, ice sculptors, caterers and other people that offer services for events. You could either tell them that if they refer people to you than you will refer people to them or you could straight out offer to pay them if they refer people to you. At very least leave your cards at their place of business.

Tell them its as easy as this

Customer at cake shop: "I need a cake for this event that I am throwing"

Cake shop owner: "Ok you got it. By the way do you have any entertainment for that event?

Customer: "No why?"

Cake shop owner "Oh because I know this guy that is a really great magician. You should really check him out!"

There you go, you have another client referred to you, and the cake shop owner is happy because you will pay them or refer people in return. Now all you have to do is go visit each place periodically to replenish the supply of cards that you left there, and be friendly to the people and ask them if they have told anyone about you.

If you do this you will be tapping into an extremely targeted market because these people are already throwing events.

once again good thinking thankyou for the thought and ideas!

I haven't the slightest clue, but I do street magic and I have a client who does magic performance gigs, so I will ask him how he books them and get back to you.

Can you get yourself a booking agent? If not, I have found one thing particularly efficient (technique which I got off BHW), just tell everyone around you that you are looking for events, and say "if you know anyone, give them my contact and I'll give you 20% of my pay".. all of a sudden you've got 20 people trying to get you gigs..

this only works if your friends are a bit poor... like mine :D but its worked great for me

Loving your name :)
Create a website, could be your name.
Use all social media channels.
I bet you'll have or will be able to create tons of videos; use that to your benefit, I bet you can create a very attractive website and update great content via fb/tw/etc.

Once you got that, you can simply put a section; want to learn? subscribe to my newsletter, then you'll start email marketing and done deal.

If you know the tools available, simply use your imagination on how to make the best use out of them, you have something unique and thats already a huge bonus.

Good luck!

Whatever you do call yourself the "Naked" Magician. Naked sells even if you're not naked.

Travis had some good advice, you could also test direct mail for something like this. I'm sure you'd end up hitting a few people that are either planning an event soon or know someone who is. It's a numbers game of course.

I would look to utilise what you have an obvious passion for to a hugely receptive audience thus obtaining an immense amount of personal satisfaction to make the world envy you.

Why don't you devise a business plan to start a charity? Stop laughing now, I'm serious. Discuss with banks, local politicians and your local government, I am sure you will receive a tremendous amount of support and pointers in the right direction. Perhaps even as part of an existing, related charity.

If your charity was taking entertainers around to children's hospitals and disadvantaged schools it would be a revelation and it would be adding such an fabulous service to any community.

Getting paid for something you love, oh the life.....
