look in the bag and if it it's not a diamond watch....throw it away,,,
that curiosity not worth any thing else..
I am hoping it is a Browning 9mm Hi-power.

Your example is very basic. I reckon there are various factors at play. I'm sure self control has a lot to do with it but all emotions play a big part in curiosity as a whole. If you've always been disappointed, or you've never really received anything that has been truly satisfying you will probably have a lower sense of curiosity due to the simple fact that previous such experiences have not really been rewarding hence you overlook it as uninteresting or not worthy of your current time (or whatever other reason you may have). If you're not a materialistic person, or not too bothered about presents, or in general couldn't care less you will also naturally be less curious than most about such things.
Think for a moment and consider a different scenario, if the bag was left there without anyone telling you what it was and no one moved it for days what would you do? I'm sure you'd eventually go for it in one way or another. Due to the way things have played out you won't do so now just to prove to yourself that you've got self control, or whatever it is that you want to prove to yourself or them either consciously or subconsciously. Or you won't do it because you genuinely lack the curiosity to find out and you are happy to wait because you know that you will find out soon enough anyway.
Curiosity can be complicated or simple, your example was simple, but the backgroud stuff a little more complicated.
Curiosity is an interesting one and whether you control it or something else controls you depends on various factors. Do you control fear? Or does fear control you?

Just an update, the sack had two of my favorite puzzles from my childhood.
A set of SOMA blocks made out of desert ironwood (Pao Ferro), and a set of instant Insanity Blocks still in the original packaging.
I am tickled pink.
