What would you do about this client ?

sounds like you dont like this guy. i would bump price up to $500-800. he must be really desperate to be reaching out to you after 3 years. and youre not to keen on working with him anyway.
think about it. where in the world would a normal person even reach out to get support for such an issue. not many places to go. youre the only guy in town who can help.
In all honesty. I don't!

The guy is one of those "know it all" types.

After job was completed and he got what he wanted, he ghosted messages. Didn't have the decency to reply. Now 3 years later, he clicks his fingers and I'm supposed to go running. I'm supposed to now stop what I'm doing and find him login details, f*ck that! If he wants my attention and time, pay! Maybe I might just ignore him, as not going to sit and debate/negotiate with him..

It's his company but he has to "clear things with the board" - Basically, some other melons with over inflated titles, thinking there Roman Generals who know it all.

I've read most of the thread. No offense, but to me, you seem all over the place. He's not your GF, he's not your friend, he's a customer who needs your services. Tell him a price, do the job, invoice him, and everybody will be happy. If he doesn't want to pay for whatever reason, your problem is directly solved too.

You should stop with all the "3 years" stories. What does it have to do with anything?
On one hand, you are complaining he didn't get you more work, on the other, now there is work to do and invoice, and you don't seem to want to take it.

Leave your feelings aside. A customer needs you NOW. He will probably be happy to pay. End of story.

If you feel like that, charge a bit extra, then you don’t mind jumping right. £250. If he says no; so be it.
I guess your right. I would do it for that.

Last time though, even though his company makes a small fortune. I charged him peanuts and he had to "clear it with the board"

I think back then I only charged him £120

I couldn't believe it! I was thinking, you have all this money but have to "clear it with the board" for £120 - I only done it at that price, too then move onto monthly SEO but he ghosted all messages after he got what he needed!

I had a little chuckle at that. I do have mixed emotions in all honesty.

At the time, I was wanting work. As it was close to Xmas and my situation was different back then.. So his ghosting, had more of an impact, as he lead me up the garden path and when I came knocking, nobody answered and I went way above the call of duty for him.

3 years later, I don't need the work! But may be tempted if price is right.

I'm going to do what others have suggest, give him a price. If he takes it, he takes it. If he doesn't, he doesn't. End of story I guess.

may as well quote him $1000 for consulting fee to get to the bottom of such a difficult issue.
i think as freelancers / agency owners, we've all had dickhead clients like that.

like @MV3 said. take your feelings out. youre a service provider. quote him a fee, set expectations, and work. it's just business nothing personal.

You can work in the same sector in the future and help each other, so give him what he wants)

I'm deffo gonna make him my girlfriend with the pricing. We call it in the UK "twat tax"

Just say "i checked my records and it does not look like you purchased an annual support package, so i am unable to help."

Then see what he does next.

He will either not reply as he wants a freebie or will ask how much is an annual support package. If he asks charge him for a full year in advance, with a premium added for being a dick.

So his ghosting
I get all this. I do.

Thing is, you have no real control over other people, only over yourself.
This resentment in this situation doesn't serve any purpose.

As has been suggested to you in this thread, adjust the proposed price upward as much as you want, if you feel "now he has to pay if he wants my services". But your feelings aren't probably a good metric. You should do it more about the job, how much you're willing or unwilling to it it, how difficult you estimate it will be, the potential problems, etc. and set a price according to these parameters.

You can still choose to propose a fixed price or an hourly one, also depending on your assessment of the JOB (and customer usual behavior, maybe). Good luck. Cheers.

I deffo need some girlfriend tax of him, that's for sure! I like your suggestion though, smart! Think I'm gonna give him a price for the job to be sorted and then upsell on the support package, to avoid this drama! see where that takes me. He's tight though with his money, even though he's making a small fortune. His "board" of melons probably will need to debate an entire week if they should pay £250 and go ahead with support package. Before even for £120 it was a proper drama for the "board to clear it" Either way, I'm getting my girlfriend tax of him. Little jimmy will have to have a couple less massages this month. Bless him, he looks like uncle fester.

How do I respond to these messages though.. In the quote box below, is clients message to me..

I just wanna reply "I have no f*cking idea pal, it's 3 years ago" - I can't even remember what I did 3 months ago! Got more luck trying to find a needle in a haystack! I'm not messing about giving myself a headache, my job was done 3 years ago.

Anyways, what would you say to that ? whilst still sounding professional.

Regards
"Here are the loggins"

or

"I no longer have those loggins, set up new ones" :))

or

"Yes, I have set-up those accounts 3 years ago.
Why they are not working, I don't know { as we don't have a maintenance contract | and I don't do maintenance for old clients | and would love to help but I can't as I am fully busy with my current clients }.
Either you or someone changed something there or is on cloudflare side.

Now I can check for you and see what is that about. My rate is $xx / hour." ;)

Side info: I think cloudfare is getting removed from some hostings and you might need to adjust to that. You will have to check the info before giving this info, if you choose to do.

Also, I feel that you are interpreting his words a bit too much and over think this. The man wants the loggins. You either give them or not, you either inform him you have them or not. :)

you should charge him for the assistance your time is valuable, just be polite and let him know that is a long process you need to follow in order to recover everything he needs, and let him know you are working in a different project and set clear expectations about the time o resolution.
