"AI" is burning money, not making it. OpenAI doesn't make any money on their GPT4 monthly subscriptions. The amount of processing power required to deliver their stuff is extremely expensive. It's all being heavily subsidized by venture capital to lock you in to their platform with "first mover advantage". Yet it's so trivial for me to just use a different API key and get similar outputs from some other model from some other company. So OpenAI doesn't have any real staying power in this situation. The only company making money off of AI is NVIDIA, who are supplying them with the hardware.
OpenAI hasn't delivered anything substantial, besides letting me be lazy and skip the process of reading various documentation. However this documentation will always be outdated, by however many months it takes for them to train a new model with the latest scraped content. So it's not even valuable for me when I'm using cutting edge programming languages that it hasn't been trained on. Nor will it help me stay updated with news that happened last week.
Be realistic, AI is delivering for the people here; some mediocre content to quickly pump out churn and burn style. Which is not valuable for anyone besides the guys slapping an advertisement beside it. It won't help the reader skimming through the nonsense. It won't help scientists cure diseases. It won't help me optimize or secure a very complex program that's been worked on for a year. It's all smoke and mirrors and the average Joe is already bored of it. The novelties gone, the hype is subsiding, the products are inconsequential.
Sure go ahead and make money with it, use it for your hustle, but don't pretend like it's going to change the world or become much more than it already is. It's already plateauing.
