Hi everyone,

I got a friend who is a locksmith. He approached me and asked if I could create a website for him.
After doing the keyword research I found out that the competition is quite beatable. I got a medium sized private blognetwork which will do the job.
In addition I will create a youtube channel, facebook fanpage, google+ and twitter account. A few PRs and it should be ranked.

The keywords are like "locksmith + town + subregion"
In total there are about 30 of them.
I thought about using "locksmith + town" and the main keyword for the homepage and create a page for each subregion targetting the specific keyword.
Afterwards I will link all the pages to the homepage.

Does that make sence? Can anyone think of a better way to structure such a website?

Yes it makes sense, check what your competition is doing and try making yours better than theirs.

Although I don't see anything wrong with your strategy for getting the site up to #1, you may want to get creative in structuring the content on your pages/videos to ramp relevance.

Structure the campaign according to the common need of the local customer base. There is usually a reason that people search for a locksmith, and chances are the reason may be infuriating because nobody likes having to replace locks. Capitalize on their collective anger by giving them an easy way out, which of course your locksmith friend does better then the other 30 people. At least make them believe that.

Just my 2c, good luck m8.

when users search local keywords, they more than often use "niche"+"city" rather than the other way round. But maybe do both?

You've got the right idea. /cityname-keyword would be a great way forward. Mind you, if you are doing anything sketchy, you put all your eggs in one basket, and risk getting all your locales torched. For that reason, I am often tempted to go the EMD route, and if I get hit, no big deal.

Good luck!
