I guess everyone agrees that colorful website with a lot of images looks the best, I personally like websites with animation images, talking about websites from bhw users I was impressed with t0mmy's rankusnow website design.

What design looks better?, For me I would go with something flat and minimal, light colors not too over done not too gradient, just a right combination

I disagree. To much colors is not a good thing. Images are okay, but also - too much images, if not tastefully combined together is a bad thing.

Being practical: Any site that attracts a lot of repeat and targeted visitors, and a site that makes a lot money has one of the the best designs.

Graphically it may not be the top, even content-wise it could suck, like for example any bank site, or e.g. Paypal site, or FB... but if it serves the purpose of attracting targeted and repeat visitor/paying clients, plus it makes a ton of $$$$, then it has to be among the best designs.

Sometimes appearance is secondary, especially if the website is doing pretty good. I believe Amazon had only a few changes on their design since their launch.

You can go terribly wrong with shadows, the concept is so outdated.
