I haven't sat on my ass and watched TV as a regular part of my lifestyle in well over 5 years. I download movies via P2P and watch them at my computer when I'm in the mood. No commercials, and it's free. (btw, Fuck You, MPAA...)

But recently a thread got me interested in Breaking Bad, and I watched the whole thing, from season 1 to season 5 episode 9, which sucks because I was planning on taking it with me on vacation and watching it on the road, and while in the cabin we stay at that does not have cable nor "aerial" TV. So, I figured maybe there might be some other good series that would be worth downloading and watching while on the road, or while holed-up in a mountain cabin late at night with nothing to do but sit around and wait for the bears to break in and eat us for dinner. Seriously, the three bears sent Goldilocks with a "Welcome Basket", and it was all high-fructose foods and high-calorie junk food, and a bottle of A1 steak sauce, which I am given to understand is the preferred condiment for discriminating bears as it brings out the natural caramel apple overtones of human flesh, while underlining and accentuating the contrasting earthy flavors of the bone marrow, which I'm given to understand tastes remarkably like chicken.

But I digress.

So, I figured while fattening up for dinner with the bears, maybe watching a good-quality TV show from start to finish might be nice, since I'm not going to do it while NOT on vacation.

So, what do people recommend. Are there any TV shows that are on par with Breaking Bad? The Wire? I've heard of it, but never watched more than 10 seconds at a time. Maybe Battlestar Galactica? Any "sleepers" from 3rd world "ghetto" countries like Bolivia or the United Kingdom that might be worth watching? Please don't mention Mr. Bean. I hope someday Pee Wee Herman molests him, then kills him, cooks him, and serves him with cream gravy and a side order a favre beans.

Prison Break - Must WATCH! Checking out The Wire myself now..

I concur. Prison Break is a must for everyone, it's so exciting that I've watched it several times in the past few years.

Planning to see Anarchy of Sons, just gotta finish Breaking Bad (my opinion: slow in actions but interesting story).

Nigel, I always get a good chuckle out of your posts.
Hmm, good TV series
24.....If you have never seen it......but be warned its one of those shows that you just can't stop watching.
Prison Break
Burn Notice
Dexter
Walking Dead
Doctor Who the new series if your into SciFi

There's a few shows that stand well above the rest (in my opinion). I'd never waste my time with the blatherous drivel that Charlie Sheene spews in Two and a Half Men, but somehow watching 5 seasons of Breaking Bad seems (seemed) like a completely justifiable task.
But that's in the past (unfortunately).
Great show.
You want a show that's on par with that? It probably won't happen. I find that there's a void that BB used to fill which now goes thoroughly unsatiated. The Walking Dead tried, but it wasn't the same. I grew tired of that show mid-way through season 2 and haven't looked back.
I'm currently watching Game of Thrones, which is great if you like medieval imagery, ambiguous (to me) European accents, and the frequent appearance of the disrobed female form (mixed with the occasional appearance of the male kind). I do. Some of that, at least.

I've turned to smart, or at least quick comedies to fill the late-Sunday-night-tv-craving inside myself. Arrested Development, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the like. Even shows like Workaholics or Portlandia can provide a few laughs.

But no other show has given me the feeling that so far Breaking Bad is the sole proprietor of. A step above the rest.

Maybe I should try The Wire.

Tell me what you think of that if you watch it.

Also people seem to rave about Mad Men. And Dexter. And Dr. Who, though supposedly it's tough to get through the first leg of that show.
