rant

Met Matt Cutts a couple years ago at SMX. Nice guy, but his level of Google worship was so high it made me sick. That was the first time I started disliking Google. Google's answer to everything is 'you shouldn't be optimizing for search engines.' Hell, what do I do then? Let all my competitors eat me up? My white hat techniques have struggled for 2 years to maintain front page. I took a niche term 3 days ago that we use at work. Ranked it to page 2 within 2 days. I expect to be page 1 within a week. Please explain to me what Google expects those white hatters to do? They want to eliminate the world of blackhats, but they CREATE them by making it difficult as hell for legitimate sites to rank.

Short Example: Amazon is authority to all of ecommerce. Oh really? Do you go to amazon to figure out what a nintendo wii is? No, you go there to buy one, so why are ecommerce sites 2nd and 3rd on Google's search results?

Keep in mind, I've been using google since day one. People thought i was genius because I somehow knew the answers to everything. I didn't, I actually knew how to use Google when nobody else did.

slash rant.

Very interesting thing you pointed out:
They want to eliminate the world of blackhats, but they CREATE them by making it difficult as hell for legitimate sites to rank.

Money unfortunately controls everything nowadays.

Yep, money runs everything and google isn't in it to work for free because they've got shareholders to answer to. I've learned many many years ago to take everything google says with a grain of salt.
