I've used Trello and it works okay, but
@b1step-ahead is right it gets very messy very fast.
When i was running projects for a multibillion dollar financial company in the analytics realm, we started out using JIRA. It worked okay, but felt more like call center work and ticket tracking than project management.
We graduated from JIRA to Rally, which split things into the Scrum style of Agile project management. But we were data and reporting for a financial entity, not a software development company, so 90% of Rally was virtually unusable for us. We used a massive Excel sheet and two week sprints as a sidecar, and it worked pretty well.
With my new role, I have implemented the Excel piece of Scrum and the two-week sprints concept into our department (part of a multibillion dollar logistics enterprise). We have been at it for a few months and it is working wonderfully for project management and insight into what everyone is doing and their progress towards goals. Soon we will have enough data on our work pace to implement our employee productivity into Tableau dashboards for stronger visualizations on our progressions.
For my personal projects, I'm still looking for a sweet spot. Right now I use a combination of Google Sheets and Todoist. It's working okay. I need to take a three day cleanse and reorganize everything. I used to do so every quarter, but have neglected to do so in the past 12 months. Too damn busy.
