What tool are you using today for your keyword competition analysis?

I downloaded the trial for long tail pro thinking it would be the platinum version but it turns out it wasn't. The platinum version has a keyword competitiveness analyzer.

What do you use specifically for this? And can you trial it first.

The Moz Toolbar, SEM Rush, & my own knowledge of the SERPs and how I would rank against those websites.

Moz is the most accurate according to my experience. SemRush has a really bad competition algorithm but you can get data applying a formula that I elaborated
As said by Zwielicht, I think the best way to check the competition is knowledge of the SERPs

I personally use "Google AdWords Keyword Tool". There are other tools also "Open Site Explorer" and "SEMRush".

I use "keywords revealer", it's a good online tool for competition analysis of the top10 + find longtails but sometime the result has 15-30 days late so you need to double check the comp with classic tool like ahref and moz before make a big plan

I am also using the trial version. Maybe I'm a bit paranoid but am worried that all of the choice data and keywords I'm discovering are going to be somehow tracked by the owner and utilized for his niche sites. After all, he did design LongTailPro for his own benefit of finding more keywords.

Right now I'm using it to get keyword ideas and then comparing that to the strength of the SERPs to make an argument on whether or not I can compete with them.

The week point of semrush keyword difficulty tool (not only semrush but many other services) that it often gives "This keyword is not in our database".

It saves you a lot of time manually analyzing metrics. Can be really useful, but it's not mandatory. I have long tail pro, but not platinum and I do just fine

Still an avid user of market samurai here. I have LTP too but i prefer using MS.

With LTP, you'll need proxies to bulk analyze keywords though. Not so with MS.

I have market samurai which is really good but I prefer online software....

My knowledge of on site SEO and Majestic
