What to wear. Really.

You don't have to look like a member of Cosa nostra but from what I've learned about buisness meetings is that it's good to wear business casual attire. It's the most neutral. You don't look like you're going to a party and you don't look like you're about to go to a funeral.

This is it. When you wear ill-fitting clothes it actually makes you look even less professional than the jeans and tee-shirt guy. Personally, my taste is typically a close cut two-piece or double breasted suit. If you can't afford Tom Ford, buy a $300 suit get it meticulously tailored. A tailor is your best friend. Secondly, Don't get a ridiculous wide tie that you see every banker in the world wear. Then again, don't wear a 1" tie. Instead, opt for a healthy in-between and go with a 2-2.5" tie. Wear it with a tie bar, and make sure the tie bar is no wider than your tie. This goes at your sternum; not higher, not lower.

A belt is optional. More modern styles tend to go without a belt, because the more horizontal lines, the shorter you look. I still wear one though. Make sure it's close to the same shade as your shoes. As far as shoes go, I tend to gravitate toward Magnaani double monk straps in black, or Santoni capped toe with a brogue in brown. You also can never go wrong with a wingtip. The wingtip should actually be your staple.

Also, stay away from rubber bottomed-shoes. Leather is going to be less comfortable, but it will look 20x better.
