what to put on domain before site is ready?

Hi,
whats your opinions on the best thing to put onto a web space that you own the domain for. IF your site isnt ready.

I see a lot of those links on parked domains - but , is there anything better to help PR , traffic etc ..before your actual website is created?

Is it better to leave nothing ..or to put a linkage crap landing page.
Or ..is there something you believe or have proof of, that can benefit the site with a temp landing page?

Several domains have been 'fermented' passed the 1 yr sandbox almost and thinking to get something up on the new ones that i wont get to for awhile...

what do you think?

A coming soon page, with a keyword rich "article", and an opt-in box,
plus maybe a "bookmark me" link.

The coming soon tells visitors that you're working on it.
The "article" gets, or keeps you indexed.
The opt-in box? You know that one!
The "bookmark me"? Easy to return...

you dont leave it like that! If the site isnt ready yet, make a skeletal of the site. Start building all the pages even if they dont have any content yet. Be sure to title and name the each page the way you will really want it. This will help you for the spiders to initially crawl and index the pages making it easier for you to established the whole website once its up and running

I agree with snowwhite. And then once content is posted to the blank pages the crawlers will see this as an update and re-visit and update the index. I do strongly suggest if using this method to ensure there is an about us section completed and posted to the site. This helps to start branding your site and gives confidence to the visitor.

I also recommend a blog to be linked from the homepage that, initially, will be used to post updates on the launch date and to post links to areas of the site that have been completed or updated that may be of interest to visitors.
