What to look for in a Proxy?

Thought maybe an informative thread into what makes a proxy high quality could help a lot of members including myself. Feel free to add some information in a post

Great idea! Maybe we can create a guide put of it.

Let me start woth 3 things that should be important for most users looking to buy dedicated proxies:

1. Clean IP - each proxy you buy must have clean IP and the ability to connect to the requested web platform without any issues.

2. Market-level price - sometimes you might see providers advertising ultra low prices for dedicated proxies. Unfortunately, dedicated proxies can’t cost less than $1 per IP. So if you see an offer that is too good to be true... question it.

3. Avoid providers with bad rep - there’s a shitlist on the forum. And each marketplace sales thread has customers commenting their service. I suggest you look for these reviews and read them before buying from a provider.

Depends on your needs. Reputation will help a lot so read other reviews etc. Need to check if the type of proxy being offered, datacenters being the most common and cheapest.

Do you know the best way to check if the proxy is residential or datacenter? I know there is whoer.net

You can check with whoer.net as it will show you the ISP (Internet Service Provider) of that IP, but you can't rely or trust 100% that information.

To check for IP ISP you can also try https://www.maxmind.com (One of the most reliable services)

If you're buying from a reputable provider, they'll tell you the type of proxy you are getting. Residential proxies aren't cheap, so if you see prices too good to be true, they're probably datacenters; if it's not stated, they're probably data centers. Otherwise use a service to verify type of proxy you have.

Data centers are fine if they're clean. Some providers will limit them to certain functionality though (web, social, sneakers, etc) so comes down to what you need them for. If not sure ask the provider if they'll work with your intended purposes.
