    notice: this is noob question.

i was thinking to make things like pdf to word converter, youtube uploader downloader, upload screenshot....
but, i'm only familiar with html, css and bash scripting. i don't know javascript. I don't understand how communication user-server even works.
My guess is for example with wav to mp3 converter, you do forms with javascript, and what happens when user click submit? how that file gets uploaded, what receives it on server? my guess is php, but i don't know how, does it have some special functions for that or use some third party app? and how does it call for wav converter?

please direct me if u can, thanks

Online converters use third-party apps on the server like ffmpeg. The handling of the web script happens normally (html/js/php etc).

basically for anything web development you would wanna know php, javascript, ajax add those to your arsenal and you'd be fine, php is more advanced now and can do more object oriented than before and if you wanna learn more, learning a language such as java or C++ would let you do more stuff too.

Well for web based application PHP, Javascript,ASP is good.
In the same time you should know HTML, CSS.

C# is for windows application but it will help you a lot on increasing your knowledge on coding.

Most of the languages have the same principles:

    Syntax
    Variables
    Functions
    Classes

PHP is pretty easy to learn and you can do a lot of stuff with it so i'd prefer PHP for starting.

If u are just stargin programming, better choose C++/JAVA, because these are more strict languages, when PHP is "write me as you want" type of language, which can teach you bad practice.

I would highly recommend that you learn PHP. A lot of powerful open source software like WP and vB use it, and it's worth knowing how to tweak them to work for you, rather than spending a few hundred on premium plugins.

Javascript & CSS is also great for tricking your visitors to click on ads, etc.

Other "online languages" (for lack of a better term) like ajax can be useful, but I haven't really used them that much.

Desktop languages like .NET and Java are pretty good as well if you want to get into that. These take longer to get use to though, but can be very powerful.

Edit: P.S. I hope you're not doing what I started out doing. I learned PHP, CSS, etc. and made a few good scripts and uploaded them to your own site in hopes of making money. You would be better off investing a few hundred in 3rd party scripts and learning how to promote them really well. I wasted about half a year doing this, when I realized that I didn't know how to get more than 1k visitors a day.

Well. that's exactly what I'm planning to do.
But, I don't see myself coding for the half year. If it takes that long I'll do something simpler.
You don't think you can maybe spend time coding and invest money in promoting?
What happened after with your sites?

A simple Web App would be made by Adobe Flash, of course it can be hacked as Flash Games.
