I recently paused a bunch of keywords that had poor quality scores and a few Adgroups which were created using the Google Adwords Editor but have read that keeping them in your Ad campaign will still have an effect on your campaign performance and was wondering what everyone does as best practice?

I was told not to delete them as you end up loosing the historical data so is it better to copy and paste them into a dedicated Ad Campaign that is paused and only purpose is to hold these keywords ?

Hello,

Try looking at analytics on how these keywords are performing, whats the bounce rate, 30 days revisit and other details, see if the keyword got some potential, make a separate ad group for it with customized ads and if possible, customized landing page on your website, and your quality score will be improved with the passage of time.

also try looking on the match type of the keyword, i assume you are targeting them on broad match?

It has to do with the CTR. The only way it can affect your account is by affecting your CTR. If your ad group is paused and not getting any impressions whether you keep them or remove it does not matter. Simple as that.

For unwanted Keywords, you could add them to your negative keywords list.
