What to do with this expired domain?

Hey guys

So I registered a expired domain while back by impulse because I saw the metrics and thought it's great.

But not sure what to do with it....

So originally it was a file sharing site ...it has backlinks from big media publications as well.

DA: 89
Backlinks: 48,777,064 (yep)

The name of the website is not the best otherwise I could just make a website on the name although it's not.

I can't say much without seeing it, but that domain looks spammy to me considering the DA and backlinks and the niche "file sharing."

You can try to sell it, but don't expect much.

I assumed it would be good considering a High DA and the backlinks are really good.

Yeah it was a file sharing site...but not sure if that's any concern

I wouldn't obsess over the name
If those links are legit, it's a good headstart
But that's too many if you ask me

That is true, there's links from guardian , USA today etc.

But the name is shitty , it's not really keyword based

48 million backlinks from how many RDs? Because this matters... oh, and also how good are those RDs? As easily inflated as DA can be I don't think that a DA 89 domain name is bad when it has so many links.

You said that you already own the domain, so add it to your GSC and add some analytics to it and check for penalties / traffic levels because AFAIK huge domains like this get traffic for years even after they've expired. And if you manage to reinstate / reindex it you might gain even more of the traffic back, which could still be monetized with CPA / popunder networks

As a last resort you can turn it into a churn & burn project and spam the hell out of it with millions of AI generated posts and GSA / Xrumer blasts until it either ranks and makes you money for a few months, or tanks and you know for a fact that you can let it expire

So the referring domains are 113,039

True although it was a file sharing site, and I'd like to build content on it but the name is just not specific or anything. Think "Vimeo" so basically that's it.

Vimeo is a good name

But anyway, the name doesn't matter for sites that are established and have traffic because people have already familiarized with that name, no matter how good or bad it sounds, so they've learned to trust it for their needs.

And the RDs are numerous, I think you have a good domain on your hands if it's not penalized and still gets residual traffic

what's it look like on archive.org? i would just resurrect the site as a file sharing site and let people use it again. people are probably clicking on those old links and getting whatever parked page is there, or a broken site. make it usable again and put ads on it, probably at least make some money from the traffic.

repeat after me: adsense is not the only ad network.

Unless you paid like $25 - 50K+ for this (because that's how much would a legit brandable 100K RD domain go for at the very least), then I can assure you, the level of abuse and spam this domain has gone through is out of scale of measurement.
Unless you, of course, got extremely lucky, but that's a very very slim chance.

The domain used to be great with plenty of authority links. Then someone took it spammed it to death, dropped it and this process has been repeated 2 - 3 times.

If it's not manually penalised, then you can still possibly squeeze something out of it, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Put it into GSC, check for manual penalties and take it from there.
Lack of manual penalty still dooesn't rule out the overall unrankability and toxicity of a domain, but you can always just put a few articles there and see what happens.

To get you an idea, the biggest clean and brandable domain I saw last year was DR66 RD12.5K domain. Brandable, gaming niche. It went for $29K.
