I come from a small country and I recently "acquired" a substantial mailing list. These people have bought something online (can't say what, but mostly gadgets, clothes, makeup etc).
Has the list be sold/acquired by others? If yes, the value would have dropped dramatically.
Also there are legal issues as the poster above noted, so be careful and be aware that there may be spam traps/honey pots in it.
