I have been using Pinterest for years with a single account to promote my blog. My blog is pretty concentrated on a single topic and I only pin from my blog so my Pinterest feed is also very concentrated. Recently I have been seeing a spike in followers, I am getting between 2 to 3K new followers a month and will reach 17K this coming week.

What are the best options to monetize my account? I have created some dedicated affiliate pages with limited success. How many followers do you need to make serious cash from Pinterest?

How many followers you need to make serious cash depends entirely on your niche. In terms of monetizing your page, its hard to say without knowing your specific niche, but I would start with searching for companies/websites who sell products within your niche and contact each of them showing them your Pinterest page and say that for a fee, you will post X content of their choice on your page to drive traffic to their website.

Thanks Dagrevon. That's a very interesting idea that I had not considered. My niche is fashion. How much would you charge? Would I set up a separate board for each client or mix in the content on my most popular boards?

To be honest, I have never dabbled in Pinterest, nor have I done any marketing in the fashion industry, so I can't answer that question with confidence unfortunately.

If I had to take a wild guess I would say:
Price: $40 per post and most buyers will probably get better results and be repeat customers or spread the word to other companies if you do whatever is going to drive the most traffic (mixing it in with your most popular boards). Also, pay attention to detail, don't post anything thats super spammy, you don't want to be losing the followers you already have and want to continue to grow your page, make it look like natural promotion.

That's good money. I was thinking that I would be forced to demand much less. Thanks again for pointers.

adsense is usually the best way to monetize pinterest.
but this could be difficult with the new algorithms of pinterest, because they give your pins less exposure.
17k followers is definitely a nice amount, but you need to be pinning at least 50 pins per day to get any traffic.

I am currently posting 10 to 20 posts per day and then sharing at least one photo from each post per day. I am looking to increase that with purely product posts that have no or very little accompanying text, just links to where you can buy. If I did that I could supplement my content posts and reach 50 pins per day. However, would Pinterest penalize me for thin content landing pages?

I'm basically in the same situation as you except, I'm in the health niche. I actually have 100K+ Pinterest followers but am making virtually peanuts when it comes to Adsense revenue. I'm pinning to Pinterest about 30+ times a day and receiving about 400 - 500 visitors a day at the moment.

In the past, there was a time where I was pinning about 60+ times to my Pinterest account with virtually all links going directly to my website's homepage and was receiving about twice the amount of traffic. The funny thinning is, my Adsense earnings where barley any better then they are now even with twice the traffic. The only reason I stopped pinning in that matter is because I felt the way I was pinning was making my website look spammy seeing as how they were just links going to a homepage and barely to any written content. Feels like such as waste to have a nice Pinterest following and be making hardly any money from it. I like @Dagreyon idea though.

17K is good amount of followers. In fact only 5-10K followers could be enough for good cash if they are laser targeted, so if your 17K followers are targeted then you can definitely earn minimum 1k monthly.
I have 30-40K followers and i'm monetizing them with Adsense - but my niche is fitness.
affiliate marketing is really good but you can also start Dropshipping fashion items.
