Hey guys!

I have a relative who some years ago helped out a friend in need, he let him open up an ebay account under his own name. Now, his SSN is attached to it and everything, there hasn't been any problems since it's been running nice and well for some years now. I want to ask aside from the risk of bad customer service which could result in my relative's name banned from ebay, what are the other risks that could play into part? He's recently been asking him to close it down and to find another way because of personal reasons and he thinks he's not reporting or paying his taxes, my relative's information on ebay has never came into play under tax services and such or ever mixed in with his sole proprietor businesses. His friend has been backing out time and time again, What can my relative really do in order to resolve this issue? What consequences does my relative face? How should he come across it?

Thanks!

Your friend is dumber than a bag of hammers to let someone else sell using their name and SSN.

You never give eBay your SSN under any circumstances ever. Giving eBay your SSN is one of the worst things you can do if not the very worst thing.

I would get the account back as soon as possible if he has access to the account and change the email and password immediately.

Also I want to let you know that when selling on eBay that you only have to pay taxes on your profit once you have over 200 selling transactions or 20,000 in sales only if you have gave eBay your SSN or a TAX ID/EIN because that is when PayPal will turn over your information to the IRS.

if your relative is worried contact ebay and have the account closed

If the account has all of his information, he should be able to give enough evidence to have the account closed. DO NOT email eBay support. CALL.

Never. never never ever let someone else assume your identity, be it on ebay or anywhere else. Be it in USA or Singapore. Relative or friend or whatever, never.

You cannot possibly think of what can possibly go wrong. Either you end up in deep trouble, of you spend plenty of time trying to clear things up.

Get your relative to contact ebay about this. Fastest way if the friend is not cooperating. In the process your relative might get a P ban from ebay, either that or a serious warning. Theres always stealth anyway..

What website is it that tells you what's selling now and how much of it has sold on ebay?

if your relative friend scams someone on ebay, guess who they will be tracking? you relative!

Slokor over on aspkin forum sells those high sales accounts if you want them. I bought one and found out he was using real live personal information of people which is ID theft and illegal but is allowed to continue to fraud people by sellling accounts that has someone real name on it.

It is only ID theft if a Social Security # is used otherwise no crime is committed.
