Well just got fired -- first time in 30+years! No other computer gigs here, so it may be back to trucking I go. But I should have 6 months of unemployment. My ma just passed so getting a small inheritance. Thinking of spending 1 or 2 days a week working on our land to get ready to build, and spending the rest of the time working online and trying to get new customers.

Still laughing though about the firing -- was told I refused a test -- pointed out I was told to take the test after lunch, then was told I made 2 mistakes last week -- pointed out I had been working with a bad infection and sick as a dog, so then it went to i didnt take the job serious enough -- nothing I can say to that!

Only real problem is 1 month away from finishing my class up, teaching basic programming to rural workers in PHP and C#. Hope they let me finish the class there!

So do I quit and go driving? Too old for that life and wanted something more -- guess i farked it up good! Well got a small hosting company for a few dollars and several sites that I think I can get in the black, just need a bit of time and a way to get a google adsense account again!

Anyhow, rant over, got to teach tonight!

Anyone wants to send prayers for the family feel free, dont know how all this will work out!

Keep on trucking my man (figure of speach)

Refreshing post, im getting tired of the garbage freeloaders lately

Got me 6 months to make it on the web, so thats what I will do.

I am praying for you! Maybe this will be for the best. When God closes a door, He opens a window. Also, try for the extension so you can collect for a year. Everyone else does.

My ma just passed.
I am very sorry for your loss. Stay strong.

Try to get a g adsense account as your hosting company.
Create a plan and follow it! You should be fine!

My prayers too are with you. :) I've a feeling that you'll have all the immediate help that you need for the family. Don't worry about it, and begin working on what you can do best...

First: Keep the mind away from panic - small or big. Relax.
Next: Look forward to a life full of abundance. Accept it in the mind first. Already feeling it? :)
Next: Collect all your plus points (skills) in a box and find which ones you can work on...

E.g., I think you're good with WooCommerce and other such ecom applications. If you can build general ecom sites from scratch, I think there is also a demand for those skills. Find them. You can also do Amazon sites with those specialized Ama plugins. Build a portfolio. This is only 1 idea for you. You can find plenty. You'll be back on top of things in style. Relax, and make it happen! :)

Sorry to hear your news, I've been in your situation and it's never a good time.

One thing that will help you is to do some planning now:

Work on reducing your outgoings as much as possible and start being frugal. I was in a similar situation once and I challenged myself to see how cheaply I could live. My competitive nature kicked in and rather than being down about my situation I enjoyed the challenge.

Also, don't waste your inheritance as you don't know how long the tough times will last. Work out your monthly outgoings and get a solid idea of how long you can last with the funds you have. Knowing that and knowing your deadline will help you to maintain your focus on getting things sorted out.

You sound positive and clearly have a plan so I am sure you will have no problem getting things back on track.

Good luck with it!

I feel sorry for you. I really wish you the best working online.

Obama has brought healthcare to the U.S. but employment laws still evade you. In the U.K., even after 1 year of service, they would have to go through a disciplinary process before terminating your employment.

Be strong, work hard, and you will find success.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions. Went and signed up for unemployment this am, what a pain, but will be drawing from Mi so pays better! But I may have got lucky!!!

They are doing a veterans outreach at the career center, and so I am looking around. One of the ladies from where I got fired called me and said you need to talk to this guy hes hiring drivers. Well thats not all. He is also into training vets for jobs -- so his tech folks are supposed to call me later next week. Main if I could get paid for training I would be in heaven!

srg888 thats a good idea -- I am decent with oCommerce and Magento, so thats an idea. I also have some smaller jobs coming in -- plus time to work elance again!

Thanks everyone for the support and ideas!

Good luck, my mother is in a similar situation so I can feel your pain!
