Heyy, from my experience, one of the main things you can do is to make sure your content nails the topic in a way that stands out. So, for example, if your small keyword is "best running shoes for beginners," but you want to rank for the bigger keyword like "running shoes," you’d want to expand your content to cover more ground.

You can talk about different types of shoes, how to pick the right one, comparisons, etc. So, please expand and keep doing what you already do, when you keep doing that the bigger keywords will eventually start to climb. Also, make sure that the big keyword is naturally placed in your content, but remember, don't overdo it. If you can provide the context of your keywords I can give you relevant examples as well. Hope it helps...

If you want to optimize for bigger keywords without relying on backlinks, try focusing on your content. Make sure your main keyword is used naturally in the title, meta description, and throughout the text. It’s also important to keep your site fast and user-friendly. Adding relevant images or videos can help too. Don’t forget to make your site mobile-friendly since search engines prioritize that. Finally, use social media to drive traffic, and consider adding schema markup to help search engines better understand your content. Hope you well.

Link your new content targeting the bigger keywords to other relevant content on your site. This can help distribute page authority and encourage search engines to crawl your site more effectively.SEO takes time, so be patient and stay committed to your efforts!

Optimize your content by including them in titles and headings, and ensure it meets user intent. Make your site fast and mobile-friendly, and improve engagement metrics like bounce rate. Use social media platforms to boost traffic and visibility, which can help improve rankings for larger keywords.

Thank you netproxy: for detailed explanation, this is the situation my friend is facing in his website, as the sites keywords were not indexing that they can be, so someone suggested that keep add fresh content and make it optimized.

you can try pillar content strategy, and be careful with content cannibalism

that happens often in this strategy

Beyond link building, you can focus on On-Page Optimization, Content Optimization: Social Signals.
