What the hell is this COVID about?

That is not science. I've heard the "theories" of ballistics, particle size, etc. I can even show you a recent study which was forcing different particle sizes through all different types of materials to see which would be the best to make a mask. Nothing of cloth like material blocks much below 3 micron. You must understand this is purely particle size with known pressure. This does not take into account particle composition and charge. There's even a study that incorporates certified N95 masks. If worn perfectly (no gaps at all) they are 95%+ efficient at blocking particle size of 0.3 micron (SARS is around 0.1), The way people generally wear them (medical professionals) they are only a little over 50% efficient (due to gaps.) NONE of that has anything to do with actually preventing the spread of an airborne virus. You can look back through my previous posts. I linked to one article that reference a ton of peer reviewed articles that show no statistically significant evidence that masks prevent the spread of influenza. It is generally accepted that influenza spreads in droplets. They claim this novel virus is actually airborne. Obviously if someone is coughing or sneezing they should wear a mask to prevent splattering major clusters of viral particles onto people and surfaces. Healthy people should not wear masks.

So is this the scientific proof you were referring to?

Let me get this straight, you're sharing scientific proof that's posted by an unreputable disgraced has-been conspiracy theorist pseudoscientist whose views contradict the worlds leading scientists and nearly every other scientist on the planet?

The dude worked as a professor for the University of Ottawa. Has many controversial views, such as not believing in climate change. Was charged with trespassing and fired in 2008 after refusing to grade his students (gave them all A+). When he was fired claimed "The March 31st university decision to dismiss me was itself tainted with Israel-aligned political influence". This is the person you guys are getting your conspiracy theories from?!

Also, the link isn't even from a real medical journal. It's just some blog post where he posted all his crap on. Apparently he originally tried posting it to ResearchGate and it was removed for providing misinformation.

Ok, let me be unbiased. Let's assume there's some big conspiracy and he's just being targeted / silenced. To be fair, he is linking to reputable looking medical journals / study's.

But did you actually read through the study's he's citing? Nope.. Ok well he's doing the exact same thing you guys are doing. Misquoting data and/or misunderstanding what he's reading. His whole hypothesis, "study", report, or whatever you want to call it, is based on the sources he's citing. Yet he's completely fabricating his conclusion, cherry-picking data from them, taking them out of context, and misquoting them.

Now I don't claim to be an expert on this, but it seems completely ridiculous. I almost question if he's even read the sources he's linking to. He quoted one of the studies "None of the studies established a conclusive relationship between mask ⁄ respirator use and protection against influenza infection", but doesn't seem to realize that he's misinterpreting the sentence. If he had read the entire thing, he'd realize that the study is obviously supporting the evidence of masks working, and that this sentence is referring to them not finding a difference between the mask and respirator. He's also attempting to use inconclusive data from the study's even though they're suggesting a larger study is needed.

So sounds legit -- He'll just disregard any reputable study's that disproves his point. Find study's that he can misquote and twist the words around on, regardless of what the rest of the study says. Go out and find small study's with little to no data -- like his first source only having 32 participants. It sounds like the illnesses were coinciding more with which ones of them had children at home rather than who used masks.

I feel like you guys really need to start questioning the stuff you find online. This dude is a joke.

Never got a chance to read too much into this, but might be worth checking out. Looks like someone details all his B.S and exposing him:

I see people wearing winter coats and hats.
What a bunch of sheep! LOL! I did my own research and found out that
only 1500 people die from hypothermia in the US per year.

That's only 0.0005% of the population. They live in fear of something that 99.9995% of people won't die from.

It get's better, a lot of the people who died from hypothermia were wearing coats and hats, and they still died! Coats don't work!

Purpose of mask - prevent infection from others.

Purpose of coat - prevent hyperthermia, physical comfort, style, preventing other potential illnesses relating to the cold such as bronchitis/colds etc, having additional pockets to carry more things, an essential tool for flashers, a good way of putting the pelts of dead animals to good use.

If you looked at all of the use cases of coats and then how many times they were worn that they served one of the purposes mentioned above or more, the stat would be 99.9%+. Because otherwise why would people keep wearing them.

Oh, you thought people only wore coats to prevent hyperthermia? Right.

They just want to implement chip into your brain , and you know who is responsible for this ? Bill Gates !
Jk btw

Wrong.

Irrelevant.

Wrong.

Irrelevant.
Not a good use of statistics tbh.. you can't use a figure in the way you tried to use it to form the position that you're trying to form.

Also, we'll never explicitly know what the single word arguments of "wrong" and "irrelevant" actually mean, but implicitly it's pretty obvious.

Yeah. YOU will never know it appears, I agree.

Yeah. YOU will never know it appears, I agree.
You're right, how could I? Saying a single word to explain your entire position doesn't really give me much to work with.

Anyway if you're happy basing your thoughts and opinions on backwards ways of using statistics, who am I to stop you. Bon appetit.

I would like to join this topic and say about my country.

We are currently bringing new measures, stupid ones, I really mean stupid ones. People start getting more scared and they believe everything they hear. "Numbers are getting bigger, you are not scared?" - this was question from my friend who believe in everything on TV. So I tried to explain him why, he wont listen.

Of course numbers are bigger, more tests more sickness AND more lies. It was odd to me when I saw one day number is 700, next day 1500. So I start researching it a bit, I scraped all possible sites for numbers and articles. I made some statistics and saw that % of tested positive people never left to testing. They never left on testing but are marked like tested positive, I mean WHY, why to lie. I know why, but need to ask myself.

Sickness is real, but not as much as they on TV, my family got it and describe it like any other sickness.

Just so mad and so much hate this public sh*t, people are so scared and they do everything gov say, "wear mask it would protect you" (it wont). Mask is for someone who have covid-19.

Numbers are lies, news are lies, everything is lie and stupid.

So when I got up and when I go to sleep I read my books or programming a bit. Enjoy what you do.

Mask is for someone who have covid-19.

And everyone has the potential to carry the virus in them, that's how we should treat a pandemic situation.
The vast majority of spreading and transmitting the virus is done by asymptomatic carriers.

You're right, how could I?

By informing yourself about
basic concepts such as purpose and benefits of wearing a mask in pandemic before forming and spreading uninformed opinion.

About what measures are possible and effective in pandemic and how each one compounds with the other to form a protective societal shield to try and keep the fragile balance between protecting the health and life of the population and relieving the health care system and keeping the economical status, education and all other areas of high importance to the state in acceptable shape.

About how that balance depends on how heavy is each side of the scale and how each side is a direct function of the other.

So how do you explain all the deaths? How do you explain overloaded hospitals? Overloaded morgues? Mass graves? Doctors pleading for help? The entire world of medical professionals and scientists are working together to make some big conspiracy? Doesn't that sound far-fetched?

Mask is for someone who has covid? Ok, well how will you know if you have it? Or you don't believe that people can be asymptomatic? You don't believe in science?

Its obvious you're the one that's "basing your thoughts and opinions on backwards ways of using statistics" considering all the previous links you posted and then misquoting / misinterpreting them lol

So if you're saying the masks are used to "prevent infection from others" so are you saying you agree that they should be worn? Or are you like the other dude saying only infected people should wear them, yet he would have no idea if he was infected and asympomatticaly spreading it...

No, I was saying I'll never know what you meant because you used a single word to explain yourself which is pretty pathetic when I'm taking the time to explain my point of view thoroughly in good faith.

Don't lecture me on wearing masks ffs, I've been travelling throughout Europe continually during the whole of COVID, had 7 PCR tests during the pandemic, and wear a mask every day all day while I'm outside of my apartment.

Also the only information I've "spread" is quotes from the CDC and other studies into the rates of suicide, prostitution etc as a result of the lockdowns. So far your grand contribution to this conversation has been a few thumbs ups and probably the stupidest analogy between two obviously mismatched situations I've ever seen.

My point wasn't that people shouldn't wear masks, and like I've said since the beginning, COVID is obviously a legitimate disease that anyone can catch and spread.

My point was that your use of statistics to back your point up is comparable to something a 10 year old would say and doesn't make fucking sense. Comparing using a coat to protect yourself from hypothermia and a mask to protect you from COVID is a super dumb comparison and instead of even bothering to listen to what I was saying you followed up with more bs.

Like I said, if using statistics in a facile way to try to support your point is ok with you, have fun. There's not a statistician on earth that wouldn't say what you were trying to do is fundamentally incorrect. It's only compounded by how arrogantly you put forward that logical train wreck in the first place.

Yeah and by "quotes" you mean misquotes, and by "rates of suicide", you mean surveys. Then if anybody points out your inaccuracies and flawed logic, you simply ignore them lol

The point is that it's a joke comparing coats to the same ramblings people have about masks. What does the "purpose of coat" even matter?

Oh, you thought people only wore coats to prevent hyperthermia? Right.

Oh, you thought people only wore masks to prevent viruses? Right.

What about in Asian countries where they have been wearing them for decades? People that DO wear them for fashion. People that use them to hide their face. To keep their face warm. For air pollution. So women can hide their face when they're not wearing makeup.

But again, it doesn't matter. It's supposed to make fun of the logic those people have about masks.

I can go on and on, but you have ears, but do not listen. It is literally a waste of time. I posted the resignation letter from the Co-Founder of the Intercept speaking of Orwellian censorship, from his own publication - you deflect. The issue you think is debunked and fake has more corroboration than anything the MSM has yammered about for the past 3 years. I posted that ONE source because Rancourt cited A TON of peer reviewed papers. Isn't it funny how people that go against the system are "discredited?" Why don't you look into nurses in Canada fighting to not wear masks during flu season and WINNING, because science clearly shows that the types of masks people are wearing do not prevent the spread of viruses. Time is ticking, you should listen.

...Plus the entertainment
It really doesn't matter which side of the debate you are on. There is some great humor and entertainment that has been created as a result of all this.
- Watch some of the public freak-out videos.
- Creative candy delivery systems to give kids candy on Halloween.
- Hospital staff dancing around
- The media's constant contradictions (there are hundres if not thousands of examples), like this:

At least we can have SOME fun with all of it!

Oh, you thought people only wore masks to prevent viruses? Right.

What about in Asian countries where they have been wearing them for decades?
I knew one of you geniuses would say this and I was just waiting to see which one it was. Unsurprisingly it was you.

Within the context he was talking about, he was comparing coats protecting against hypothermia with masks protecting against COVID.

Mask use to do with preventing pollution inhalation has nothing to do with the point he was making, but because that simple concept is far above your cognitive abilities you just went "wait a minute, what about using masks for pollution too duhhhh".

I'm ignoring you as I would ignore a monkey that was trying to teach me how to drive a car. You made it clear that giving you any more respect than that was a mistake.

But I just wanted to quickly congratulate you on being the one that was mentally challenged enough to try to bring mask use for pollution into this point where that is completely irrelevant.. bravo.

Masks on the general public in reality are a waste of time.

How many people do you see fiddling, touching them, moving them, not wearing correctly and many more? Lets not forget just taking it off as you leave the shop and put it back in pocket or bag.. no one does any pre or post hygiene before wearing the mask.

Unless everyone starts wearing a filtered mask the curtain type (i.e home made designer fabric or something someone in your street made out of an old duvet cover) or surgical masks are going to do little.

It's better than "nothing" but when you have people doing what I mentioned above I don't see the point in them..
