What is going on with Google SERPS, they are nuts! Since this March 12th update, there is some very weird stuff going on.

For one of my main KW's, google now has 8 x Amazon pages in the top 15. What!!!! Usually there is 1.

Absolutely mental.

Another of my sites has lost all of its rankings, traffic has dropped by 75%. This site only has decent links. I cannot figure out why it has been hit. Tons of quality content, good authority links, no crap anywhere. Obviously nothing in GWC.

Google, you drive me nuts.

This has been happening on a lot of SERPs. Multiple pages from the same domain.
 
Fucking google. Mine dropped too. Thats an expensive good lesson to never relay on this dudes.
 
think the moral of the story is not to just rely on one source of traffic?
 
2 of my ultra spammy multi geo CPA affiliate websites, which both lost their rankings some month ago, got an ultra boost with this update.

Meanwhile, 4 of my ultra authority websites with super quality content, a lot of 10k+ articles, nearly zero bounce rate and growing traffic for month now lost almost 50% of their traffic.

I never complain because its part of the game, but this time, in my opinion, google messed it up a little bit.

Think I will wait another few weeks before taking any action. The only bad quality links I can find are the usual plethora of diagram and image sites like https://3ccompetition.org which I seem to get for all my sites nowadays.

It is usually all part of the game with Google, but this one is baffling, just makes no sense. Thankfully it is the only one of my authority sites to get hit, perhaps just collateral damage/friendly fire and will only get fixed in the next update.
 
My site had 50% drop in traffic yesterday but seems ok today...very odd.

It's like they have let a toddler in and told him to press any button he wants. Totally random results from day to day and even from search to search. I am getting vastly different results when doing the same search twice. Bizarre.

Ouch, that is painful. Any clue as to what is targeted in this update?
 
I reckon Google is doing a lot of split testing at the moment. They are trying to figure out what users actually want from the search engine by testing specific search terms and throwing up a few different types of results. They can then analyse these visits and behaviors to make their search engine better.

Thats actually an interesting idea. Wish they would choose some other search terms to test it on though :mad:

Yeah, true. Then again, if your site is really out performing others you should see your ranking return in the next couple of updates. I think it's all about testing quality and specifically what searchers are looking for.

If you are targetting "The best tennis shoes" then this page should outperform a simple e-commerce page for that term, seeing as your site will likely give the user actual advice. I am hopeful that this will actually weed out the bad competition in time.

I agree with that I think they have been having trouble with what people also ask box, ads etc..

Because if I search the same term signed in / out. Change my IP on the VPN I get a range of different positions for box placements like the people ask, related search boxs (never used to show on our term) OR 2 related search boxes and a new one "According to" I say "new" as it was never there for any of my terms previously..
 
I feel you mate. For some of my keywords the Top 10 contains 7 YouTube videos, which got nothing to do with the niche. Google went completely mad. Right now I am tracking around 200 keywords and every single time I refresh them I get around 50 alerts. Ups and downs all the way. I can't take it serious in the moment. No idea what is going to happen next. I am sure lots of webmasters are getting really anxious these days.

I reckon they never stop ;) But yeah, wonky changes across the board for me. Lost and gained some traffic on the higher quality properties. Lost and gained some traffic on the spammier shit from yesteryear. I want to get off Mr. Googles wild ride.
 
I'm waiting for the day when Amazon or Facebook shows up for searches related to Google products.

I've not built any links to this site for a few months but ordered a few powerful ones a week or so ago, so those should be delivered soonish. These should provide a really nice bump to authority and I would have expected some serious serp increases for all money pages, prior to the 12th. Now however, I am not so confident!

I agree with you though, I am going to continue my schedule of publishing and quality link building and assume that this will correct itself, hopefully sooner, rather than later.
 
oh my! good thing i ditched google earlier, so don't have to deal with this serp update anymore
