What the hack happened to skype??

Does anybody know why Skype is acting "suspicious"?

So, it has been a long time since the last time I used Skype, probably 5 years or so.
And today I visited Skype website, and the website is in Chinese. Chinese character all over the place.
also, I noticed that the website URL is "http://skype.gmw.cn"

Did Skype now owned by a Chinese company?
and the android app link is not directing me to Playstore or any app store but gives me the .apk files directly from the download link.
I feel suspicious.
What the heck happened to Skype??

It might be redirecting you to a Chinese version because of your IP and/or cookies. Try clearing the cache and disconnecting from any proxies, if you haven't already. Also, try going directly to the English version from an Incognito tab:

umm..
I don't think I ever use a Chinese proxy.
the english version of the website keep redirecting me to that .gmw.cn site..

is this a fake site or legit?
If it's fake site, then I don't know why the heck is my computer trying to redirect me to that site even when I visited the Skype.com/en the legitimate one.

You did install something like ****.exe I mean setup it's for give you redirect to domain or somethings it's try to hack !
What did you last time ?

nothing.
I did not install any kind of software in the last couple of months.
 
Might be a malware or virus. Try scanning your computer with malwarebytes+antivirus.
 
Skype is cancer. I've received so many messages from hacked Skype accounts that belong to members on here. One even from an admin. If you're smart, you'd be looking for an alternative.
 
There could be some kind of malware in your system that is forcing and redirecting you to that site. I suggest you install Bit Defender and Malware Bytes and do a full deep scan. You don't have to pay. You can get trial for 30 days.

Don't go to that URL. That seems very risky.
 
So, I tried to open the skype.com again using incognito. and it is now redirecting me to correct location.
skype.com/id

So I am now really convinced that something is wrong with my browser. I thought that this http://skype.gmw.cn is legit one of a domain owned by skype for Chinese user. then I realize that it should be skype.com/cn or something.

I believe that some plugin in my chrome is causing this redirection thingy.
 
brother your browser may be hijacked and infecteds.... try install spybot and do full virus scannings.... also use online virus scanner like trendmicros to do full scannings to ensure system clean like Pakistan
