What subject & service can attract members?

Membership websites are growing, but I wonder what can be a competitive subject or service, which still can attract new members? I know this is a general question, but I wish to hear some success stories that what topics are still hot for new websites (apart from good software and marketing).

Probably the first thing that many people would think of is a "how to make money online" membership site. It does have a huge market, but it is also a market that is very saturated. I think that adding one more of them without considering other options would be jumping the gun. Finding another very tightly focused niche is worth considering. One place I would start is to Google lists of social networking sites surrounding a specific hobby or career area. Lots of them are around for people with these same interests to have discussions and share information. These can provide some ideas and a jumping-off point for a membership site around a certain topic.

A lot of people seem to overlook the weight loss niche, there are probably more people interested in weight loss around the world and there are people looking to make money on the Internet.

So if you're looking to set up some type of monthly recurring membership website I would strongly suggest you take a look at weight loss.

I like the weight loss idea, but would people actually pay? There is a ton of free info out there. What do you suppose would attract them to actually pay for the site?

Lol anything! Think about how different each person is a lot of them provably have the same interests as you. Pick something you love and gets traffic and talk about it or help people get better at it. Just make sure it is something YOU would pay for if you wanted to learn more about your niche
