what should I know before deleting outdated content ?

I have over 20 outdated blog posts from 2016 that receive zero traffic and target low search volume keywords. I’m considering deleting them, but before making a decision, I’d like to hear from SEO experts about whether deleting such posts is the right move, and impacts of deleting posts.

By zero traffic do you mean organic traffic or internal traffic as well? No visits at all?

If these pages are no longer relevant and no one visits them, you can update or delete/archive them. For those URLs you can use redirects if there are relevant or similar topics on your website.

I would suggest you to update and optimize the outdated content to the new keywords or consolidate them to higher performing content. because sometimes deleting lead to slight improvement in the site quality but it has a risk of losing existing Backlinks and historical value.

I would highly recommend to update the content if possible. Consolidate these posts to be more precise .

There is no bad impact of deleting them. But, if you still want to keep them add them as internal links in your posts which are getting traffic and you will get some traffic there also.

Yes as mentioned above, i would rather update the content and republish again or redirect the post into related post if there is any.

Imo, content without traffic doesn't mean it's useless.
 
I suggest you update the outdated content with the latest information. If they are indexed and have some links to your relevant pages, update them instead of removing them. Also, removing the old article may still impact your website negatively sometimes.
