What should I expect from paying 5000$/month for backlinks?

I'm working with a large retailer company, and we're working with an SEO agency that quoted us $5K/month for general SEO work. I'm looking to use their services mainly for backlink building, as we have other people already working on the other stuff they're looking to provide.

This said, what should I expect with such a large budget directed as backlink building? In other words, is $5K/month too much for backlink building? Do I need to request a fleshed out backlink building strategy?

IMO 5000$$$ Per Month for a backlink is looking much higher unless you are trying to rank with the hard niches like health/finance.

Expecting results depend upon your keyword competition, the country which you are targeting and the current ranking position.
Definitely you should ask their strategical plan for your site. I would recommend everyone to do that even if you have a small budget. You can't simply throw away your money, Isn't

You should be expecting a lot.
 
It depends, best to hire a digital PR/outreach link building company.

Specialisation is required for link building work imo.

Most SEO companies I know pretty much put their budget to things that can be outsourced, then keep the rest.

And just buy links, which either will get caught in the long run or not as sustainable as creating angles & assets to reach out to the right people.
 
Hell yea it is! I could probably rank your site fir not even half of that budget! Go to fiverr and search for google approved guest posts and look for the ones with the most 5 star reviews! Buy at least 10 of them each on a different gig for there premium packages and you'll see a great movement on serp. Your welcome!

Ask them for a proposal detailing what they’ll be providing.

for £5k/month I’m sure they’ll provide you with a detailed strategy.
 
Depends, most of the popular seo companies over charge just because they are a brand.

But if I was you I expect monthly like:

Up to 10 niche related high quality guest posts.
At least 1 popular newspaper post or mention.
ORM if company
Social media optimization as profiles and exposure
 
I know ppl selling link wheels for that money
I know ppl selling web 2.0 pbns for that money
And i know ppl who resell BHW LADY GAGA FOR THAT MONEY.

You should ask them of a sample report or what exactly you will be provided with.
 
Probably links worth in reality ~1000$ + some on page SEO. At least it works like this in my country.
