I’ve been working on backlinks for roughly eight months, but there was a period when the site had server issues, making it inaccessible for about a week.
The image below compares the state of my site from last March (left) to its current state (right).
Since my site is only a year old, I believe things will improve this year. However, I don’t think my site's low rankings are simply because it’s only a year old.
Other websites that were created around the same time have completely different rankings from mine.
I've used various types of backlinks, and while I haven't calculated the exact amount, I believe I've spent $50,000++ on building backlinks so far. I've created a lot of high-quality backlinks and also built thousands of unique-address PBNs, comments, profiles, and Web 2.0 links to increase my referring domains.
Currently, my site has over 10k referring domains according to Ahrefs.
Why I Became Obsessed with Referring Domains
Shortly after I started working on backlinks, I analyzed my competitors and noticed that increasing referring domains led to an immediate ranking boost. I saw that they increased their referring domains by several thousand in just one day, and their SERP rankings skyrocketed right after. Most of their backlinks were spammy BH links (PBNs, Web 2.0, comments, profiles, etc.).
There were no penalties at all. In fact, some of them had over 80% of their total backlinks as nofollow links (mostly comments).
After seeing that, I thought my site's stagnation was due to the number of referring domains, so I started aggressively increasing them.
As you can see, the results speak for themselves.
The image below shows the time when my site had the highest rankings.
After losing my site's rankings, I spent about two months rebuilding and optimizing it as much as possible.
However, since my site isn't built on WordPress, there are certain limitations.
My competitors also don’t use WordPress, and switching to it would be impractical.
And I removed low-value backlinks with a DR below 5 and now only focus on high-quality backlinks like guest posts and niche edits.
Recently, over the past 2weeks, I’ve bought 80+ high-value guest posts.
The increase in my site's traffic is partly due to external advertising.
However, my main goal is to grow organic traffic from Google, so I don’t see the current situation as a positive one.
I've asked similar questions before and have taken various actions based on the feedback I received. Yet, I still haven’t found a clear solution to this issue.
Anyone who has experienced this kind of stagnation despite making significant efforts will probably understand my frustration.
Of course, I know there’s no magic answer, but doing nothing won’t get me the results I want. That’s why I’m willing to try anything that could help.
I’d appreciate any suggestions or insights that might help improve my site's performance.
If there's a viable solution, I’m more than willing to invest in it.
