What should I charge for a website design?

I create what the client said to. + a couple change orders.

My dad and my brother are auto mechanics. A customer comes into the shop needing a new engine for his car. My brother goes to the junk yard and buy an engine for $300 and my dad rebuilds parts of the engine for under $100. They install the engine and hand the customer a bill for $1500. The customer happily pays the bill because other shops wanted a lot more for the same job. Just as someone said earlier, do your research and find out what other PROFESSIONAL web designers are charging and try to stay within that range. Just because you only paid $55 for a theme doesn't mean you should be charging peanuts for your time.

Money comes and goes but you can never get a day back. Always value your time more than money. Since your client is a friend of yours, write down the least amount money that you will accept for a hour of your time and then multiply that amount by how many hours you think it will take for you to complete the job. You will then have your quote.

You don't need to charge that much for web design, more like 200bucks or slightly more if you are just installing wordpress theme.

Charge more in monthly hosting + maintainence, you can close the deal easier i believe.

Tell him that you will maintain everything for 20-30 bucks per month or so. And yea, 2-5 bucks to hosting, you keep the rest for doing nothing :)

I agree with this. It will be nothing for him to pay you that and to have a website and you will make some money out of the deal and your relationship will be even better. I'm sure he'll return the favor again to you.

you should charge $300 if you using any theme. If you build from scratch then you can charge more then 600$.
