What should be the link building strategy for new site?

I'm new to SEO, and I have a few questions. I understand that the best backlinks are the ones you earn naturally. However, for a new site that has none of its pages in the top 5 of Google results and is almost receiving no traffic at all, it's unlikely to get any natural backlinks. It doesn't matter how good and useful the content is if no one is visiting the site. What should be their link building strategy, and what type of links should they aim for?

For a new site i would focus on getting relevant and high quality backlinks instead of chasing large numbers. Guest posts, genuine outreach, niche relevant directories and strong content are a good starting point. A solid foundation works better than building links too fast.

Start with a few relevant and quality backlinks instead of focusing on quantity. Build links through niche related guest posts, genuine outreach, partnerships and useful resources that people naturally want to mention.
Also focus on strong content, internal linking and technical SEO first. Good backlinks work better when the website already provides value.

For a new site, focus on building a safe, foundational backlink profile before chasing competitive links. Prioritize creating high-quality, linkable assets and leverage low-hanging fruit like local citations, unlinked brand mentions, and expert quotes to establish initial trust with search engines. For me this is the best strategy to follow.

For a new site, I'd focus on building a strong foundation first. Publish genuinely useful content, then reach out for relevant guest posts, niche edits, and mentions from websites in your industry rather than chasing a large number of low-quality links. A few relevant backlinks usually do more for a new site than hundreds of random ones.
