what amount of ram should i get for a linux VPS to run a SMTP server?

If you're planning to only run the smtp on the server 128mb is enough. I'd go with a CentOS .

glad i asked, hosting company said i needed 4gb... (probably a bad idea to ask them in the first place)

Yeah, the sales team will suggest the most expensive option.

Don't forget to check if the VPS IP isn't blacklisted, there are tons of checkers you can find online . Also make your smtp legit with DKIM, SPF dns queries & preferably SSL.

One of my VPS 1gb is hosting multiple websites/blog with sql queries, imap , smtp , vpn , squid among many other services and it is running just fine with only 50% ram usage.

Good luck !

Guys, any guides on installing smtp server in a windows vps and use the smtp host to send legit emails, say 10 emails/day, from your own computer?

Thanks

The answer can not be generalized, what volume are you looking at per hour or per day?

that would determine the RAM size.

i can give widows vps with 6gb ram.skkype is wtfwtf thanks

you simply cant sell outside the market place!

Server specs depends on softwares/script you want to install and also depends on volume you want to send

Powermta need 4gb dedicated ram for good performance, you can install with 1 gb ram though..

if you are using a desktop software you dont need a higher ram.
