What programming language would I need to learn to make something like SEO Link Robot?

vb.net is really all you need for multi-threaded form submission.

Are you the developer of AMR? (Great software BTW). Would VB.net be a good start for me to get my hands dirty, is that what AMR is coded in?

I have no coding experience...I'm thinking uBot might be a good option for me at this point.

Is this something I could learn on my own, or would I need to take some college classes and whatnot? I have literally zero programming knowledge.

I have a few years of programming experience. Not a pro, but I know a little.

This isn't the kind of project you could pick up and work through in a couple months ;)

You would definitely need to start with the basics and become very proficient in the language to develop an effective tool, especially when it comes to having it run properly in different OS environments.

Yes, I am the developer of AMR, and yes it's written in VB.net (2008)

Developing full fledged bots that sell like those is not something you will to do easily.

However, personal scripts are not that bad. I have limited programming knowledge, but I can write personal scripts without too much trouble. I would recommend python, but only because I have no experience with anything else...

At the end where you give up the idea entirely. Start right there and you will save yourself a lot of trouble.

Now I am not saying you couldn't pick up some programming skills. And I am not saying you couldn't do something productive with it. But zero to SEnukeX just is not going to happen.

I have a programming background. Worked as a programmer before. There is a reason I am not working as a full time programmer now (and not just because I suck). Would I like to be able to whip up some cool tool? Sure. Am a going to? No. Because there is no whipping up something like this up. It godamn hard especially for a lone newb programmer.

If you are looking for just personal tools, then it is much more economical to buy them.

If you are looking to make money, then your best bet is to hire some good programmers and have them develop your app to your own specifications. SENukeX cost around $140K to develop. And its a bug free wonderfully perfect tool right? No its a buggy POS. But what they lacked in quality, they more then made up for in marketing. Biggest hyped product this side of the hat. Think you could whip up that kind of ridiculous hype?

Anyways, good luck. :D

I understand where you and everyone else is coming from.

I just feel like I NEED to learn some type of programming language.. because I really want to be able to create a fully functional bot that I myself can use, as well as other people.

Like others have mentioned, it'd be less of a headache to just outsource the creation of a bot - but the cost would also be enormous...not to mention the fact that I wouldn't have the slightest clue if they were really developing the bot to a quality standard, as I have literally zero programming knowledge.

It sounds like VB.net and C# would be a good start for me to learn - but where? Anybody know of any thorough video courses I could take - with real-life examples?

If not that, then I'll try out uBot and see what I can accomplish within uBot...

I can say myself that I had similiar dreams of creating the next scrapebox, or AMR. I didn't know crap about VB.NET at the time.

When first starting out you will be amazed at how much time is put into learning how to rig up even more basic apps that are one quarter of what those apps can do.

I began with C# but the switched over to VB.NET because the syntax was more natural for me.

I wrote some basic bots that could log me into a few sites and upload my articles, make some social bookmarks etc.

It's not so much of the finding of the syntax to code those simple task but it's more understanding how all the pieces of the app fit together to make the app the best it can be when it is up and running.

Another key thing that I discovered down the road is the ability to have you applications adopt to change so updates are smooth and not buggy.

Now until this day I tinker with code just trying to the learn what I need to know to get one part of my app to work just to learn that before that piece of the puzzle will work I would have to learn 3 more things first.

I would suggest not taking the route of trying to build the next rocket ship application when you are just starting out because it will leave you frustrated.

I would say that if your going to learn VB.NET or C# then learn about the concept of object oriented programming first.

When it comes to a programming language you can build similar apps in almost any language if you KNOW the language inside and out.

The concept is much like saying you can beat Tiger Woods at golf if you switched clubs with him before the match.

I would go with Java. It is on par with C++, is easier to start with, and if IM doesnt work out you can always get a job.

I'm learning Ruby right now (which is actually fun to learn btw), and planning on Java next.

I'd highly recommend you to spend time on C#. If you are already a programmer then simply download and install Visual Studio and start using C#.
TIP: Off course google is the best teacher.

I heard that c# is the way to go (my uncle uses it currently and he's a programmer). I only know JS and PHP though so can't give you personal advice.

It's really depend on application(s) you want to create. If it is bot you wanna make that will run from (linux) server or some windows app that you wanna use on your laptop/desktop. It is obvious that for server side apps you shouldn't go with any of ms products, my advise would be to use perl for bots. It is most effective way to achieve results. If you are after desktop apps I'd recommend C++, nothing else! ms studio will do.
You don't need to know object-oriented concepts at all to write C++ apps, old function way will do, later when you want to get fancy and your apps will grow in size obj orientation will help a lot, but it can be done anytime later. Just keep it real, remember all you really want is to achieve some real results, nothing else.

You can use any language you can think of, but watch out for dependencies to run-time libraries.

Visual Basic, C# and some other need their run-time libraries or .net framework to be installed. Deploying just the executable without run-time libraries might cause the program not to function due to the fact that not every user has the run-time libraries installed (or like to install).

To make it short, I would suggest going with C/C++ or Delphi.

You could just make the user install those libraries as part of your program application.

If you are a newbie I would go for vb Net over c#. The learning curve for c# is quite high. Understand that the basis of writing code is actually to "borrow" it from other people. VB Net is the simplest way to borrow code you see floating around (alot of it) but with c# you have to get over confusing syntax etc that makes it hard to plug and play bits of code.

c# is more powerful but power at a price, you have to spend more time debugging weird problems because you didnt declare this as that or, you missed putting this class over in this bracket, or you forgot to tick a box in your compile menu etc

If you really want to go and build something, go get
1) vb net (its free)
2) download watin (allows you to control browsers - magic submitter is built using this)
3) start mucking around

If you go the watin route, then just be aware its going to be slow when controlling browsers, which is y magic submit limits you to 8 windows.

For those that talk about speed... your net connection and the speed of the websites you are interfacing with are WAY much slower than what ur pc can compute on code. so that is hardly the bottleneck. memory on the other hand might be a problem... just like sick submit, that thing becomes unwielding because it doesnt scale up for multiple site submits 1k+, eats up ur ram.

but gd lck.

at the end of the day, i just left the development for ppl with more time and buy :)

there are other transparent ways of submitting to websites - but im not sure how they do it. Maybe send pm to sniper and ask how they send requests to sites.

Is this something I could learn on my own, or would I need to take some college classes and whatnot? I have literally zero programming knowledge.

In all seriousness,if you study certain Learn X language in 21 days books or similar you might learn more than certain introductionary college courses.

Check the course outlines, but do not take college classes if you do not intend to go very far in computer science.
