Wordpress is a Best Option to start with blog or website.
But I mainly focus on Blogger don't know why but its keeps giving me a feeling that it can be ranked easily if compared to blogger.
But the outcome is same!!
Also I don't like plugins a lot as you can't do modification as you like while in blogger if you have knowledge of CSS only you have a upper hand to designs.

Hello Justanotherkid,
With my limited experience and after reviewing posts from BHW, I went with WordPress offered through my hosting service. I wanted templates that already had most of the options I wanted with little customization needed. I like that I have access to plenty of templates to get started with. Before I started though, I sketched out how I might like my site/blog to look like or what options I would like to have. I believe this saved some time. When I was ready to go template hunting, I used filtering options to narrow down my template search. I was then able to get previews of the templates that fit my criteria and see the review ratings. Most of the templates have a detailed description and mentions which ones are good for blogging, or for shopping sites, knowledge bases etc. I hope this helps!

WordPress always serves me right. It is my top platform, although I do consider using Java script sometimes, it depends on my needs.

Jumping on the self-hosted wordpress train. At first I used wordpress's free hosting, but it took almost six months to get 100 hits. When I switched to a self-hosted wordpress on my own domain with the exact same name, theme, and content I suddenly had a hundred hits in a week! Your own domain is the key here, not the platform you use. People don't take you seriously without one!
