What path would you choose ?

If you've got to choose between two paths:

Path1: Working on something, a method, powered with automation maybe, CPA/Mass Posting...etc, where you make XX,XXX a month but you don't have a business or a sellable asset, once you stop the money stop.

Path2: Working on a business, with a unique idea, you work for months or 1 or 2 years with no profits, you put everything on it, but you build an asset that you rise its value, can be scaled, and sold later for big exit.

I guess ideally you would want path 3 which would be a combination path 1 and path 2

Yup, that's right, with path1 you are self employed and don't own a business.

I do a combination of both, I put everything I earn through affiliate marketing into my own products and a new big project. Spent already close to 100.000 EUR and 2-3 years on it and still not started yet. But it doesn't matter, as you correctly figured out, it's about assets, web assets. If you have a project that can survive the next 10-30 years, it is worth investing and spending time on it. Just make sure that after a certain point, there's no turning back on the project and you will launch it no matter what.

What kinda time consuming business is path 2, if it's uncombinable with path 1 ? Like, you say working your a** off for 1 year with no return

?
Cause Def if it's smth SEO related , then it can be combinable...

I don't think any sane person would choose path 2 if they are mutually exclusive.

Noone knows if even world would exist next 10-30 years, let alone some project... You have no guarantee that your invested time will be a success..

I am in this business (online marketing) for 20+ years and you are wrong. You are saying an asset, which is like real estate, is worthless because the earth could implode. Okay, why don't you become a bum then if nothing matters.

When I said no return (profit not revenue), I meant the business, not you

ofc you should have money to survive & spend on that project, more likely from path1.

Well, you didn't disclose what kind of business , cause that changes all completely. Cause many people would think you are talking about website and SEOing it (cause it's a seo forum after all). So we draw conclusions from that.

Doing SEO for a coins generator site isn't the same as doing SEO for a food blog or lead gen site, it's the asset, and its sellable value that make the difference, I hope it's clear now

Trust me, I d really wish that SEO would work same like watering the garden and harvesting tomatoes after some time. But Google is not a soil, and sites are not seeds. With the big amount of updates and AI mumbo jumbo it becomes far difficult now. I don't say it has no point in investing to seo, cause we wouldn't be on this forum if that was the case

I am just judging from the availability of path 1.

You make it sound better than it is. Owning a business isn't a pleasure. Maybe the pleasant part is an e-mail list that buys with each blast. But other than that, I don't know.

In my opinion, these days, with black hat techniques, It's easier to make a mill and retire with affiliate marketing than to start a profitable business. Might be just bias.

I wish that, but I can't see how you can scale something to millions which every 12 years old kid on the internet can learn and be doing it, the more a complicated setup is, the higher are entry barriers.

Anyhow, this is how I see it, might be just me.
