So I'm running a e-commerce website and planning to acquire backlinks. Obviously I would want all those backlinks pointing to my profitable product pages but I think that would be very suspicious.
As far as I know backlinks pointing to my homepage would be a good idea since it will add link value to many more pages on my website, such as product pages and category pages.
The main idea is to rank my product pages and avoid any problems with google but Idk what's your opinion or what worked for you?

Diversify. Homepage links also give power to individual product pages, just make sure that your most important individual product pages have a place on the home page. Sites are not individual pages anymore.

I had worked with many e-commerce sites ...

here is my experience.
you must point links to the Home page (around 20-25%) and most links must go to category pages.

sometimes we link to the product page as well, but low price links. this also depends on the nature of your eCommerce niche.
most eCommerce stores regularly change their products, so in this case, always link to the category page, otherwise when you remove the product from your site, your link will be wasted.

Could you give one more advice please? You seem pretty knowledgeable about SEO I don't want to waste your time. I sell puppies, different types of breeds. I realize that people don't look for categories, they look for the exact puppy breed like "Golden Retriever Puppies", "Siberian Husky puppies", etc. So I don't think I'm gonna be changing "products" because they are always gonna be there. I have the top 15 breeds that people search and buy which are the ones that I want to rank for. But I offer more than 15 breeds on my website. All of them are in my "Product page"
So How many of my backlinks should point to? Is it the Home Page, Product Page, or the 15 popular breed pages?

I dont understand how you structure your website.

But if i have to design your website then i will build like

Home Page > then i will build category for all breeds like "Golden Retriever Puppies" then whoever i get stock/puppies, i will list them as a product with there pictures and other details. by doing this, you can increase no. of pages and user will also trust more as they can see what exactly they are going to get.

DM me your site, so i can check more... and can suggest in better way.

The perfect practise is not doing too many backlinks any specific page like homepage or money page. As you mention you run a ecommerce site you need place backlinks on your homepage and categories. Both page gives your link juicy to your product pages. so, don't worry about that.

We all know that a backlink can help improve the visibility of a webpage in Google. As a result, you're going to want to build backlinks to all the pages on your site that you would like more visibility for. These pages are typically going to be your Homepage and service pages.

I agree with him. This is a very good approach. I personally have a similar approach too (not the same approach). My approach is around 30%-40% to homepage, 20%-30% to category page and the rest to product pages (of course the top performing products should get more links than other products)

Home Page + Category Pages + Profitable products (targeting multiple keywords for same product)
