How do you guys decide what page to start backlinking to? At the moment I have a site with about 25 articles. Some receive search hits, some don't. It's very small and I get about 10 uniques a day at the moment. All the pages are monetized and have search volume.

So

How do I choose which article to build links to first? I have a limited budget.

The one that can bring the most money in the shortest amount of time.

Ok, but those keywords would take a lot of backlinking to hit the top because of high search quantity right? Which would be the easiest to bring in revenue right now? Pages getting most serp impressions (even if they're on page 5) or take the marathon to a difficult keyword?

Quickly check KW difficulty on kwfinder. Target articles with decent ms, low comp, buyer intent KW and decent product price.

Find the easiest that can bring you the most traffic, or the ones already bring you traffic. If the content is good enough and hits number 1 you might get a few organic links, a few social shares. If the content is all related do some internal linking and you might still bring in money, as well as just increases the traffic pull from G which will eventually help rank and make ranking easier for the rest of your content.

Like everyone said, start with those in the teens as they will rank faster, and push the harder one with them.

But make sure to build links to the main keywords, not the longer tails ranking on their own.

The point is to make it look natural.

As mentioned above, check your keywords using a tool and check the difficulty there.
You're looking for both a mix of high volume but easy competition to start with.

Interlinked articles/pages will help too, but for now focus on what is easier to start getting results.

DO a keyword research first to check out the volume. Then you can choose easier and more volume keywords.

dependes on volume. I give a crap atm looking after 50 volume #12 keywords.
when I can spend my time building stuff for 2k or 5k volume keywords and a page ranks in #20.
but, thats everyones free choice.
if you get that 5k baby on top 5 AND link to pages with 50 volume, is where the magic starts.

Thanks for the replies. I'll take a closer look at what's ranking where. Right now one page is ranking 7 for a 260ms. Another page has a bunch of synonyms combined all the same, each ranking around 18 combine to 1600ms. Conversions are about $7 for both pages.

I would like to add, that if you have everything interlinked perfectly, the juice will flow through your entire site and even non-targeted pages will get a very decent bump.

Build links only to the articles that contain the best keywords. Or, if you have a limited budget, build the links yourself as that costs nothing :)

Awesome, yeah I've noticed some of the effects of juice flowing to other pages. Thanks for all the advice guys!
