Hey guys,

I’m new to making money online and trying to decide which skill to focus on long term.

I’ve been looking at:

  • SEO
  • Affiliate marketing
  • TikTok growth
  • AI services
  • Freelancing

If you were starting from zero today, what would you learn first and why?

Would appreciate advice from experienced members.

i will prefer freelancing or Affiliate marketing

I would have liked to be in a much better position in reverse engineering.

Master SEO with WordPress, and look for plugins with WordPress without a recurring fee, do

dctools/dcplugins is very good

AI can now do almost everything, including SEO.

Is the answer obvious?

Hey, actually i personally advice you to learn freelancing and Digital marketing i know Digital Marketing is not in list but digital marketing with freelancing is best combo i personally working on it.

Hey, since you are totally a newbie. I would suggest that you learn something related to Property Management and maintenance. This market in the USA, UK, and Australia is growing rapidly. Due to the global economic crisis. all this contriues are subcontracting or hiring remote people for the Property industry at the moment, and its quiet Big. making money in online through traditional ways like, SEO, Digital marketing, PPC, these things are getting more and more difficult day by day. The success ratio for newbies is getting lower. So it's better to focus on something most people avoid. become a property VA in property management, maintenance, or construction. This will give you a better opportunity.

If I had to start from scratch in 2026, the first thing I'd learn is how to properly use generative artificial intelligence, but not just how to copy and paste, what's valuable today is knowing how to leverage these tools to make your work faster, learning to create effective prompts and edit AI generated content to give it a human touch is what separates those who make money from those who just stand by.

The second skill is no code automation, tools like make or zapier allow you to connect applications without knowing how to program, knowing how to create automated workflows that save you hours of repetitive work is a superpower, especially in marketing or social media management, you become much more productive than everyone else.

And finally, don't underestimate live selling, tiktok shop and facebook Live are massive sales channels today, learning how to talk to a camera, tell stories, and answer questions in real time is a skill that will always be in demand, those who do it well make the money, people buy from people.

AI services from your list
but i 100% agree with this take

Has to be AI services for sure,
Everything is moving that way, and to be in a knowledgable position to profit from it and potentially train others in it..would definitely help you the most.

Selling. If you’re good at selling, any field—no matter what you do—will bring in a lot of money.

Honestly, I’d probably learn skills that combine AI + distribution + automation instead of focusing on just one isolated skill now. A lot of technical skills are becoming easier to access, but people who can build, market, automate, and distribute effectively still have a huge advantage in 2026.

Also feels like adaptability is becoming more valuable than mastering a single platform because things are changing so fast now.

The first skill to learn, online or offline is communication. Your communication skills can alone get you far.

AI all the way. Even so called online gurus are moving to AI now.

with affiliate marketing, you get to sell what already exists but you also learn about sales, social media growth if you are doing organic marketing.

I’d probably learn AI-related skills first, especially testing and evaluation. I’ve been seeing more opportunities for AI model testing, prompt evaluation, and data annotation recently, and it seems like a practical way for beginners to enter the space while learning.
